Not happy ! No problems all day and then my GTi suddenly refuses to start. Or more accurately it runs like its on 2 cylinders and the dash runs through about 6 error messages and the key fob has a red flashing light. Any ideas if the AA hasn't ? Grrrr
-
Towed home. How crap is that for a 16 month old car with 15,900 miles on the clock. AA guy couldn't figure it out but suspects throttle sensor fault. Corkills in Wigan are getting a call at 8.01am tomorrow morning. I'll try and stay calm !
-
Hmmm my key fob is flashing red, did you find out what that related to?

Unfortunately that is one of the downsides of modern cars. They are all computer driven and very difficult for the layman or home mechanic to do much about when they go wrong. Long gone are the days of messing with distributor caps and points etc.
I think this is where stuff like VCDS pays dividends, not just for the obvious coding tweaks, but for fault codes and real world descriptions of what exactly has gone wrong. At least it gives you a good idea of what's wrong which can then be passed onto to recovery, indi garage or dealership.
Hope it's minor and you get it sorted soon buddy.

I hope it is not any of the problems I have had!! see 'rejecting GTI' post below....
sounds very similar!
-
my car had a fuel regulator issue, then injectors, then ignition coil... all the time the HP fuel pump was failing. not saying this is what is wrong, but worth mentioning it... at it was only after 3 major breakdowns that this was diagnosed!

Update: Car fixed itself in so much as the engine seems to run OK so I dropped it off at the dealers this morning albeit with random error messages still showing. I've had a call this afternoon saying that there are 13 (unlucky for me) faults recorded and they have referred to VW UK Tech team for guidance !!! They are keeping it overnight and will let me know more tomorrow. I'll be demanding a courtesy car at close of play tomorrow if this drags on.
-
Update No2: Dealer thinks there is a 95% chance that the ECU needs replacing so that's what they are doing tomorrow morning when the new part arrives. I hope they're right !
-
Update No3: I'm now in a Touran (!) courtesy car until my GTi is fixed. The new ECU was fitted yesterday and the problems continue. Hmmmm
-
Update No4: There isn't one ! My car has now been with the dealer for 8 days and I've not heard from them since Friday. I think they are getting a phone call tomorrow. At what point do I start complaining loudly ???

not sounding so good. hope you get it fixed.
I have rejected my car and VW have accepted this (though are moving so slowly)
BMW m135i ordered now. I liked VW and the GTI.. 3 of them.. but mk7 I had was dreadfully unreliable and customer service is WOEFUL now with VWUK.
-
Update No.5: I've got my GTi back. 9 days at the dealer, a new ECU and apparently a number of referrals to the UK tech team and it's seems the end of a saga. I'm a placid person but this was beginning to test my patience. You just don't expect a 16 month old car with 16k on the clock to be off the road. I'm hoping its a blip. I must admit to having a smile on my face for the short drive home from the dealer. I'm planning on keeping it for another 18 months or so and if it behaves I may then go for an R. If it lets me down again VW may be losing a customer !

Glad it got sorted in the end......did they mention what it was in the end..??

Mike S - anything can go wrong at any time and with the mk7 still being relatively new it takes vw slightly longer to rectify. I think everyone expects a car to run forever these days apart from a quick service but in reality it rarely happens.
-
Ken - the job sheet went on and on. A new ECU plus a number of phone calls to UK Technical team for advice about clearing various error messages (who allegedly were slow in responding to the dealer). In the end I'm just glad to get it back. I've only done about 25 miles since but so far so good !
McM - I take your point. But that said my last 5 cars (4 BMW's and a Volvo) never ever let me down and only went to the dealers for routine servicing. Perhaps I've just been lucky and this ran out 2 weeks ago !
