Title: VW Service Query
Post by: Olifran on 03 November 2014, 16:01
Hi
My GTI is 4 years old in March 2015. Service is due this November. It only has 27500 miles on the clock.
VW are saying 4th year service for £240 if I supply my own oil.

Question - does this service replace spark plugs and air filter.  ? I replaced both this year with coil packs as
mine is remapped.

Would a minor service do?

Certainly Spark plugs as mine were replaced at its 4 year service. Don't think the air filter was replaced.

I had a full service done this summer, 28k miles, Jan 2010 build. This includes plugs and filter change. I paid £230 at a VW dealer with the oil, they price matched a local indy. I think VW is still running the offer, so best to look around.

It's not all about what parts are changed, a minor service will only include checks on some of the parts, so you would be better off negotiating a price for a major service, less the air filter and plugs.

A major service will be more thorough and should include jobs like stripping and cleaning the brakes etc. I think that once a car gets beyond 3-4 years old, it needs more regular checks as opposed to simply swapping fluids and filters.
