Does any1 know what is the original car alarm on a mk3 golf gti,
As my car as no alarm and would like to put a original 1 back on it.
-
I just bought a MK3 Variant -97. It had a alarm installed since it was new. Defa Spectra 3000. After just owning the car for 2 days i decided to rip that sh!t out. If you decide to go DEFA i can send some spare parts but my advice would be, get a new one. Not a 25 year old alarm.

What alarm should I buy ?
-
for a mk3 I would use a hawk
http://www.hawkcaralarm.com/
everything else is more than the thing's worth
who is gonna install it?
-
Any alarm is better than none and gives added piece of mind (I went for a toad on mine), I wouldn't bother with the original Conlog or Scorpion alarm as they are unreliable and not worth the hassle (both were a new "dealer" option but fitted after production in the UK)
I get 10% off my insurance with mine (so £60 a year) and will of paid for itself by next year ( mine cast £180 2 years back and it's a no brainer if your keeping the car)
-
Did you fit it yourself
-
No, to get thatcham approved it must be properly fitted by a VSIB installer (was included in the price)
-
who will steal a mk3 :D ?
Doubt you can get one fitted for less than £200 these days. Unless you manage to recoup that in 2 years by insurance savings it's not worth it imho.
@boneybradley.... your mk3 insurance is £540 a year?? :o

yes, I have the wife on there (who's held a licence under 12 months!)

Wow that's cheap, my bike alarm cost over £300
There's an alarm on my 16v but it's turned off, don't even know how to turn it on :s

I've had a Cobra on my mk3 for 8 years with absolutely no problems or maintenance whatsoever, it really is "fit and forget".
The mk3's didn't come with factory fitted alarms unless specified, however the post 1996 models did have factory fitted immobilisers.
Who would steal a mk3? I've had many attempts (all unsuccessful), but I guess that depends on what your Golf is like.
Mine is up for sale now, with much regret, due to a growing family.
A Cobra 7928 was the best alarm/immobiliser I've ever had fitted to any car.
