Seems so hard to come by all the parts I need. Basically I have been offered everything, hubs, carriers, calipers, discs, pads, and the 22mm master cylinder (all used) for 200 quid to my door.
Can I do it cheaper, or is that a solid price?
-
You could do it cheaper for sure, but it would take time and effort. If you just want to get it done and the parts are in good condition then that's probably fair
-
They look in okay condition. Nothing to write home about but it's all there on a plate.
However I'm still unsure if I actually need new hubs. My car is August 91, so rumour has it, it might have the right hubs, but I havnt checked.
Need to out which parts are suitable (and which are cheapest!)
-
mine is an April 91 and I had to change my hubs, only takes 2 minutes to check
-
Yeah, the car is 100 miles away haha, what am I looking for? I'll check on Saturday

if it looks like this

you need hubs because as you can see he carrier doesn't seperate from the hub

you can leave the hubs as you can see the carrier bolts off
-
If you have an 8v gti then you will need hubs, if you have a 16v then you can use existing hubs. If you have a poverty spec you definitely need the hubs.
-
£200 to your door? not bad!
-
That looks a bad price to me. I got carriers, calipers, disks for 50 delivered. Went and got my own hubs for 60. With new bigger mc and wheel bearings it came to 150. I reckon it could be cheaper if I did the whole lot from a scrappy.
-
Yeah, I left it, I've just got no good scrapers near me. Might find a 4 stud mk3 if I'm lucky
-
The hubs can be had off loads of things. Callipers are on a large range of cars as well but the word g60 gets thrown round too much and the price goes up. Master cylinders are cheap as chips and your GTI has the right servo.
-
I knew a few cars used the same set up, just don't know which!
Pretty busy this week, will have to worry about it when I've got more time. Fix first, improve later
-
You can buy a mk3 for 200 and wide track it with 288's and five studs
-
Haha, little extreme for now. I'm only supposed to be getting it through the MOT...

I had a Volvo Habit, my misses said no more and bought me an 83 Mk2 GTI with orange interior P slots and wing badges as it was something she liked.
Very bad move.
