hi all i'v got a 1983 mk1 1.8 needs a gear box as in belfast mk1 boxs are hard to get will any of the mk2 box fit

All 1.6-1.8l 8v MK2 boxes will fit, I think the 16v has a different input shaft, that could be easily cured with a 16v clutch.  The only other problem you will have, is the driveshaft flanges.  I think the MK1's were 90mm and the MK2's were 100mm.  If this is the case, new drive shaft inner joints are fairly cheep and a direct replacement for your drive shafts.
