I had my car in to an independent last week for its 60K service.

He gave me a quote for the cam belt change - £285 + VAT so around £340

Rang VW today for a comparative quote and they've quoted me £299!

Sounds a good deal with VW - am I missing anything?
-
VW have been running a few promotions on servicing, so seems legitimate.
P.s. depending on dealer, they also claim to match any price within 5 miles from the garage so might be worth looking around further!
-
Seems very cheap. In the past SEAT dealers have been the lowest as they typically undercut VW on the menu system

-
The offer is currently being promoted on VW's website; £299 for cambelt and £349 for cambelt plus water pump.

I think i paid about that for pump and belt at Wirral VW earlier this year.  They knocked the price down for me...

-
Yes, I was surprised too - seems that the price on this has fallen - I remember around 4 years ago on my old Audi A4 at an indy garage it was around £500

Whilst it is still £300 I'm happier with that price!

For those that have had theirs done - did you bother with the water pump or not?

Yes i did, i think general advice is to get it done as it isnt that much more money on top of the belt work.
-
				^cheers. I'm thinking the same for £50.

I had it done on my Audi as well but in those days it was a known fault
-
water pump for just 50£ more is a bargain, part costs nearly that much and you also get coolant changed!

if it leaks or goes otherwise then 50£ won't get you it....

I would only risk not changing water pump at the same time on old mk3 because it's not driven by cambelt and I could change it in an hour on my drive.

Ah gutted I hadn't seen this. I'm due a service now and need to get the cambelt done and VW Watford have just quoted me £519 including water pump :S If only I had seen the promotion... Oh well, I'm getting a major service done so have asked him to do me a deal otherwise I'm going to some other VAG dealers or maybe back to my old VAG specialist. Fingers crossed!

jonathan_phang -  I use that dealer quite often and it shouldn't be £519. They quote £499 on the website if you try here - http://www.citygate.co.uk/citygate/service-booking-tool so if you're asking them to do a deal I'd expect less!

Thanks for that link. Funny thing is that if you go through the main VW servicing website it states that its £450 for belt and pump. I will see if they will go for that, otherwise I will just try to book it direct and see. I have a place I use in Hemel for my tyres and MOT and they have said they will do it for a smidge under £450, but the parts are prob not OEM (though he says they are from the same manufacturer). Will see what they say. Realised I need to get brake fluid done too so going to see if they will offer some discount for just rolling it all into one.

 Fingers crossed.

always do the water pump at the same time as the belt  and your a4 would have cost more due to the time involved as its a lot more work than a golfs

				They do water pump to?
