Title: new rear wheel bearing split on install.
Post by: pickles on 16 October 2014, 17:00
as above, was changing the rear wheel bearing, old one just pulled right off no probs, but when i put the new bearing on the stub axle it was obv a tight fit so i gave it a wee chap with the rubber mallet, however the bearing more or less split , i know there split race bearings but is this meant to happen on install lol, have tightened hub nut and it seems ok, just looking for verification.

Mine slipped on far enough to get the nut on then I just tightened it right up. When you say split do you mean across the bearing or front to back?

front to back, was just the inner race that was out, managed to get it back in easily enough.
spoke to a local mechanic, he says it happens sometimes and itl be fine, thanks tho :)
