I got my GTD in January and on a trip to my dealers I have an offer to change at a year old for 4k I had no notion to change and intended to keep my car for 2 yrs. I have a TR 3dr winter pack and 19's, the offer is for a pure white with spec.
Any thoughts

Change a TR GTD for a pure white GTD for 4k after a year??

Do you own the car, as in paid for it in full? If so, and you have a spare £4k, then it sound like a reasonable deal as you would have thought that your current car would have lost more than that by now. You'd be £4k out of pocket, but would have a car that's a year newer and in theory, worth more than £4k more than your current one.
If you are dripped up on HP or PCP, you'll need to do the sums to see you it stacks up. You will essentially be extending your current finance package and adding more debt to it. The car is a mere by product of the deal.

I own my car outright but wonder if I keep it 2yrs will it work out cheaper over the period ie 4k to change now or 6-7 to change after 2mths.

I had a 2.0 GTI back in 1999. When it was 2 years old, I was offered a new 1.8T GTI for £4000 to change. Now that was a deal I wish I'd taken.

Pay £4k for the same car? if it was an GTI i would have to think about it, but whats the point?

It seems a bargain to switch for another new one only £4k down, considering year 1 is the biggest depreciation hit, but unless you fancy the colour change there seems little point in swapping like-for-like. If you were always keeping the GTD 3 years then you'll be probably only losing £8k over 3 years on the basic car with a few grand discount and expecting a grand over GFV for p/x price. A change to an R or GTI (if you fancied the change) for having lost "only" £4k would make more sense. If I was sticking with the GTD, I'd keep the car you've got.

I think this depends on mileage a bit too. I was amazed when I was offered 12.5k trade for a 3yrs 6 month old GTD with 60k on the clock. It was a 28k car
