Howdy,
I was wondering as I was changing drive mode on my car for the nth time, what drive mode do most people use as default?
For me it has been normal followed by a bit of sport and then to eco, not sure there is a massive difference.
I have had the car for less than two weeks now so *really* should read the instructions!
Cheers
Chris

80% normal 20% sport for me. Only had my car in Eco once and that was enough for me but If the missus has to use it I quietly nip out and put it in Eco before she leaves . Eco = wife mode. Not being sexist or owt, its just that she is a shocking jockey
-
settings are a bit different on the mk6 so a toss of a coin between comfort and normal, sport only when i'm in the mood for offensive driving in countryside roads.
-
ROFL - Eco = Missus, so TRUE! That is what my wife drives it in, she finds the steering to stiff in Sport.
Love the Sport Mode down country lanes, until I come across horses and cyclists riding two abreast!
-
Very rarely change modes myself. I'm in custom mode with all set to normal except air con which is Eco and dynamic lights which is on sport.

Does the Mk6 have driving modes?
Mines just stays in Sport or sometimes I prefer Individual so I can have the steering light but still have that quicker response.

my bad, probably mistaken driving modes with ACC
-
Sport 100% for me...but with the sound actuator unplugged
-
Now my forgetful modes have been sorted out, it has to be Sport. It sounds great inside (even if it sounds rattly on the outside). Eco is my thirstiest mode.

this is me as well
-
Individual most of the time (Steering in Sport, ACC & Aircon in Eco, Headlights & Engine in Normal)
Long motorway journeys I'll use Eco
Sportier driving and/or overtaking I'll flick briefly into Sport
Hardly ever use Normal
-
Have to say I've never used ECO yet... Maybe I'll try it out.
Mine spends 80% of its time in Comfort and normal 'D' in the gearbox, then when going for a blast I'll use the paddles and either stick it in Sport or Individual (Everything in Normal other than Engine/Suspension in Sport - I'm not overly keen on the increased resistance of the steering in Sport. It's not horrible, I just think the Comfort/Normal settings are excellent).
One thing I really love about the GTI is it's dual character. Even left in Comfort and kept below 4k rpm you can make some proper progress, then it settles down and becomes a very relaxed cruiser! I did 350 miles in mine on Tuesday and I got 36mpg overall and it was a very comfortable drive.
Brilliant.

I'm a GTD "normal mode" fella.
ECO mode doesn't do what it says on the tin.
Sport I sometimes push, but not often as the road surface interacts badly with that and my spine, sometimes I resort to Comfort mode if I've really had enough of the bumps (I have DCC)
Overall, Normal is just fine - more than enough poke to make things vanish in the rear view mirror and typically ~50mpg.
-
Sport 100%.
-
Sport 100%.
Me too. Tried the other modes for about 30 seconds once, then straight back to Sport. It's a GTI, and therefore it wants to be in Sport all the time
-
Mostly Sport with comfort if I am doing long distances. I have individual setup with everything Sport but the DCC in comfort which I somethimes use on long journeys

You can unplug the fake sound for Sport?
The car is not steaming up so much now I am not running in ECO.

Yep. I followed these instructions:

Some people have asked their dealers to turn the volume to zero, for some reason mine said they couldn't do it.

You can get to it without taking anything off, I used a long flat head screwdriver and pushed the clip off the actuator in about 2 seconds. Its amazing how dull 4 pots sounds. Give me a supercharged flat 6 anyday

Individual. Everything in "normal" except the differential (always in "sport"). I do not like the "on/off" action of the throttle pedal in "sport" neither the heavier steering which gives less feeling to it.

Ditto the above except lights are in Sport mode as well, goes into Sport by pulling back the lever for a spirited overtake every now and then. I never use eco, I would have bought the derv if I wanted economy.

100% Sport for me. It's a GTI, so sport it has to be
