You need the longer cable on the 8v - got a Bosch one a few years ago to replace one that has been spliced together in the car to find the cable just as short as the one that was spliced. Missions to get the right length from Camberlys

Brad did give you the part no of the bosch equivalent of the VW part number I gave you.

It's probably one of the cases where it originally had a shorter cable fitted but the spare is longer (to allocate for a number of cars where cable length is only difference).

I once fitted a know sensor from an A4 to my 2.0 2E engine.... same knock sensor only difference was cable was 20cm longer; and it was a third of the price of the one originally fitted to the 2E (knew it fitted ok because the unit fitted on 2E was used on other manufacturers engines where the Bosch p/n for the A4 sensor was listed as a poss replacement).

Ok kool.cheers for all your advice guys.im fitting my new ngk ntk 660mm lambda sensor tomoz.it cost 65 from motor parts direct same day.ordered in morning collected in evening
i hope it solves the power issues.fingers crossed.
by the way,i had to drop cat from manifold so i could twist it to get lambda out.not an easy job.too be honest every job on an old car where everythings rusted tight.aint easy lol
