Hi all
I've got Keyless on my GTD, and I recently came back to the car with the key in a bag which allowed me to open the boot, but doesn't unlock the car.
Without thinking I then put the bag (with the key in it) into the car and closed the boot.
When I later needed to drive off I searched everywhere for the key, not having it on me, and not thinking it was possible to lock it in the car only to have to get a lift 20 miles home and back to collect the spare, and there it was all the time in the boot.
Question is, anyone else done the same or have any views on whether this is a fault or a poor design. It's got to be one or the other surely, as plenty of people (I'm thinking ladies especially) will keep the key in their bag rather than a pocket and it would be all too easy to put a handbag in the boot without realising that you're locking the key in there.
Cheers

Yip it will lock itself after a few minutes (I don't know how long exactly). It gives you a visual warning by flashing the rear indicators 4 or 5 times and as I say it will let you open the boot but after a few minutes it will lock.
I wouldn't say its a fault or poor design tbh. Just by chance you could have someone trying your locks and hey presto the boot opens. Well designed imo

It's a feature not a bug
It locks the car after you left keys in the boot after a few minutes. When you have the key in the boot and close it the car will flash the lights to tell you you left them in there.
Stops someone just driving off with your car!

This explains how Kessy works on a VW. Car is not a GTI though, it's a saloon model and the cool feature is that the boot opens automatically if you drop the key inside and close it.

It doesn't do this on the GTI

Obviously, that being the reason why I have specified it's not a GTI.

Pointless mentioning this feature then as it ain't going to help the OP is it?
