Title: seat
Post by: GreyVILLAn on 11 October 2014, 14:01
Got my new Golf GTi March 2014.
Has only done about 4500 miles.
Well noticed this scuff on seat last month.

So yesterday I went to VW to book it in for it to get sorted.
They said they are gonna take pictures of it and send them to whoever to decide if it warrants the seat being changed.
Any ideas if they should change the seat for that.?

Unless you've been wearing chain-mail slacks I'd sincerely hope VW would replace the seat cover.
I doubt you'll get a new seat unless the foam is goosed.

Check your Jeans for loose rivets on the arse pockets/ bottom corner of front pockets, or maybe you've been wearing a tool belt? Looks like it has snagged on something on the way to sliding into your seat, as the rest of the seat is unaffected. If VW decide it has been snagged they might charge you for it. The seat covers come off easily for warranty work - had a front seat with  split stitching at the top of the backrest noticed a week into ownership, cover was replaced.

I scratched the back side of the leather on the steering wheel from a key and every time I pass my fingers over, it annoys the hell out of me. Things as small as these really get me frustrated but I doubt VW would do anything about it. I always had in mind that I would change the sides of the seats to leather or Alcantara and keep the middle section (tartan) as is.. My dealer told me it is possible and that I can do it at a cost. If they couldn't help you, maybe you'd look to remodel as well?

You may find that VW don't want to help, as seat covers are classed as a wear and tear item under the factory (new vehicle) warranty, and are only covered for 6 months or 6,500 miles, whichever occurs first.

Link to the warranty T's & C's below;

I had a problem with the stitching on the drivers seat cover some years ago in my mk4 Golf GTI, and pointed it out at first service when the car was 12 months old. Although not covered under the warranty, the dealer sorted it out at no cost to me.

Good luck; I hope you get it sorted.

I think you'll be lucky to get that sorted without charge tbh, from first look it appears that something rough has been snagging whilst changing gear so would most likely be put down to wear and tear, unless you can prove otherwise that is?

The seats are pretty robust, done a year in mine and genuinely not a mark so for that to occur it must be something you wear most of the time, is quite prominent from your clothing and so easily identified?

Its such specific wear that doubt they change it also.

Things I would expect change for are a bolster collapsing etc through normal use. and they key words 'normal use'

Thanks for replies.
VW had my Golf in for the work today.
They agreed to sort out the seat under warranty.

Took this picture tonight so haven't been able to view seat in daylight yet, but looks ok.

I also mentioned about a rear speaker making a fuzzy sound, which they replaced the speaker.
So happy with the VW service.

Good result.
The speaker may very well have shown up in VCDS as faulty hence why they changed it without a problem.
I know mine on the MK6 showed up as faulty so that was also replaced.

You did well with the seat there as I'd have put money on them rejecting that claim, nice one!!!!
