Title: MFD error/warning
Post by: Silvadadi on 08 October 2014, 23:52
Over the last couple days I've had the same error/fault/warning symbol flash up on the MFD........but I can't find it anywhere in the manual.  I don't have park assist and the car is a DSG GTD and only a couple months old.

It's in red (never a good start) and takes up all of the MFD with an audible tone for a couple of seconds.  It shows a car with 3 sets of 3 semi circles at 10, 12 and 2 o'clock positions.  ACC wasn't on at any time.

First instance was at 30 mph going up a slight incline.  Nothing directly in front or behind me but traffic going in opposite direction.

Second instance was at 50-60mph going downhill in outside lane whilst passing stationary cars in near side lane.

Car doesn't slow or go into limp mode and the display justed cleared itself...nothing in the vehicle status.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the emergency braking. If the car thinks your in danger of crashing it will warn you.

thought the emergency brake had triangles in it not semi circles?

Park Pilot?

From the OPs desc it does sound like its trying to indicate something with the parking sensors possibly?
If red and not in the manual and occurs more than once its a deffo trip to the dealers

My thinking too - especially the reference to semi-circles which indicate distance to an obstacle in the main screen when Park Pilot is running.

Perhaps he's left the front assist thingy enabled that allows the car to automatically switch the front parking sensors on for a presumed parking maneuvre (and invariably gets it wrong when you're creeping along in heavy traffic rather than trying to park the car)?

You don't get parking pilot on the mfd just the big nav screen or small if you have that and the op doesn't have park pilot anyway.

Park Pilot isn't the same as Park Assist.

Im well aware of that but you still dont get either on mfd!

Unless the Park Pilot sensors had failed, and if that was the case I would expect a warning in the MFD.

A picture from the op would be handy

Sorry for delay.

To clarify this displays on the mfd between speedo and Rev counter.

The symbol is the same one as when you press and hold the button to turn ESP off and put it into sport mode (was playing around at the w/e whilst sat in a car park waiting for my wife and daughter).  It showsa smaller version of the symbol, in white, of the vehicle with two semi circles at the same positions mentioned above and says something like ACC and front assist deactivated or unavailable (wife has got the car at the mo so can't be specific)

So looks like a prob with the radar function?  Next time it flashes up car will go into the dealers for checking and software upgrade.

Cheers

If its the same as the ESP button then have you simply not lost traction and this has flashed up on the display?

Silvadadi: Sounds like the symbol you see at the bottom of the MFD when your car has determined that you are closer to the car in front than it would advise, but also letting you know that front assist is off and so it won't intervene (by braking). You can go into the car menu and switch front assist back on.

Or I think you just press the left hand stalk in and it allows you to toggle Front Assist on and off

Someone read the manual - I really should get around to it one of these days, i'm sure there's allsorts the MK7 can do that i'm unaware of.

hmmm must admit I haven't checked to see if front assist is still ticked but to reiterate this has flashed up when nothing was directly in front of me however cars were on both near side and offside at the time but neither they or I encroached on the other.  I will check front assist and ACC out later tomorrow when I get the keys back from "command module"
