Hi folks, got a daft problem last night. Bought a cheap lifting kit from Halfrauds which includes Chocks, trolley jack, 2x axle stands and slidy "lie down on your back" thingy. (technical terminology there).
My problem, went to jack up the front left in order to chuck the axle stand under. The bloody jack doesnt have enough travel to get the stand underneath. Was aiming for the axle, so figured id try the stand under the lifting point instead, cant get the jack and the axle stand close enough together to make that work either.
Have halfords really sold me a kit which is friggin useless?
Any suggestions how i can get around this? All i want to do is change my DV valve on my mk5 gti. Almost thinking about finding a large enough kurb to give me clearance under the car. Grrrrr. Don't wan to have to buy another trolley jack just to do this job.

I've got a trolley jack and some axle stands from halfords... I've never had problem using it as the jack lifts to about 50cm so plenty of room to get the stands in under the car

Stick a block of wood on the trolley jack.
If you can't get the trolley jack + wood underneath the car, jack it up normally, stick some wood under the wheel, let it down and try again.

The jack has 14-34cm travel. Which is about 5cm too little. Block of wood sounds like a cracking idea (why didn't i think of that).
I knew someone would come up with a nifty little trick to get the job done ;)
Will keep you posted.
