Evening all, just a quick one how easy is it to do a cambelt on a 1.8t mk4? And before anybody says anything, I shall also be renewing the water pump as well  thanks

It would take a very brave man to replace one on a 18t.

You will need all the right kit and plenty of experience.
This walk through put me off so took it to garage.

There very easy to do. I done mine even though I had never done 1 before

After watching that it makes me thing a lot of garages probably dont have a clue how to do a proper job either? Lol

I'm going to have to watch that video again, I couldn't stop laughing at most of the things he was saying and missed half of it! Lol. If done a cambelt before but that was on a 206 while doing head gasket, totally different car I know but the process is kinda the same

Get a Gates kit if you can, I would also recommend a genuine water pump.

I do a full cambelt kit with water pump by Gates for £137.83 (with Golfgti discount).
I would avoid genuine pumps as they are all an exchange unit and they are very specific with what they will accept back for credit (making the pump about £40 more expensive if it doesn't meet the spec!!!)

How many hours garage labour is expected on a cambelt swap?

Ok cool, I had 2 hours in mind. I normally do my own but I can't arsed / too busy on this occasion and have recently found a decent local VAG specialiist that doesn't mind doing stuff ''for cash'' so they can have have the wagon soon.
