What is this black strip on the roof? Some kind of seal I'm guessing? Just noticed one is missing?! Any ideas where I can pick one up?

Not sure what the name is, but your best bet would be to go down the scrap yard to get one

Edit - on second thought, it's probably called a roof trim

Funny that coz I have one missing too so i checked out the next couple of mk4's i came across and both had the same one missing :huh: (near side rear)

Does it not come with one or do I have a serial roof trim collector in my area :lipsrsealed:

I think there's a serial trim thief on the loose!

defanitley one on both sides.


one of my mate broke his when he was removing it to paint something, aparently they get a bit brittle, imo best off going to vw, also iirc they werent that expensive for a brand new one...

I bought one new several years ago from VW and was horrified at the price.  I recall it being £25 ish.
They are easily removed and probably get lifted for sh1ts and giggles by little tinkers.

Try these part Nos:
Left: 1J6 853 709 F B41
Right: 1J6 853 710 F B41
