Title: Is it possible?
Post by: Len on 27 September 2014, 17:51
is it possible to take the gearbox out and leave the engine in place?

Looking at the space today if I drop the engine off the front mount it looks as if the box will clear the main side beam of the bay and drop down????
Am I right?

What I thought.

Have to support engine as the front mount has to be disconnected.

Yeah support the engine and with a bit of a fiddle the gearbox will come out the bottom, just remember to take the plate off the back of the engine !

jack under the sump with a length of wood to spread the weight ;)

holds up ok but the road hits my sump enough any way.

Pikey FTW

Well it wasn't!

Offside driveshaft proved impossible to get out of the way!
Dunno how it wasn't a problem when I took the engine/gearbox out last time!
Looks like I will have to undo the bottom ball joint to pull it out of the way!

I pop both ball joints to do it.
