Title: Fuel pump not priming.... Car not starting (long read!!!)
Post by: rio_gti on 27 September 2014, 00:31
So the other day my car cut out when I got to a junction, turned it off and when I put ignition on I didn't hear the fuel pump prime.

Checked fuses and all were fine but relay wasn't clicking... Tries a mates diesel relay (it's not a 409 one) and it started... So took it out and put mine back in and it started again!!!

It's Been working fine for a Couple of days, but tonight I started it, drove up the road and turned it off, when I went to start it again it wouldn't start.... Once again it wasn't priming.. All fuses fine but relay not clicking....

Tried a couple in place (not the same as the other day) but wouldn't work... But if the ignition is on and then the relay is plugged in, it primes, but still won't start.

The way I managed to get it to start was by removing the battery for 10 mins, then it started fine. So drove it straight home!!! Turned it off and it started straight up again...

Anyone know what it could be?!!!!

I have scanned it and the only code that would come up (after I kept the key on trying to tick it over) was crank sensor no signal, but surely this wouldn't effect the fuel pump priming?

Any comments welcome!!!!!

Change the sensor as it tells the ecu when to fire.

I will do..... But surely this would still not affect the fuel pump priming when opening the door, or turning on ignition  :undecided:

does the fuel pump prime signal not come from the drivers door lock module ?

So it went again earlier and had the aa come out, it appears that it was the crank sensor that was faulty (no resistance when tested)... So have put a new one in and so far it hasn't cut out... Will keep you all updated
Glad I didn't pay the £72 for the relay

exactly the same as what happened to mine mate a few months ago - the extra heat from uprating the turbo seems to kill the crank sensor on the ARZ
