As in the title, is this just a breated and is it doing any damage? enginer wear and power loss?

it will cause a air leek
-
So Boost leak
-
yeah
-
Think there is some confusion here, that is a breather hose, it does not carry boost, instead it carried blow-by gases.
-
ii thought it was a breater... i'll get a better photo later

It is a breather, a leak here does not give you a boost leak, because it is a breather.
-
\No worries, i have a replacment on order anyway, but will it vause any running issues?

I was under the impression that you will lose mpg. Unmetered air getting in after the MAF?
-
It won't affect boost levels, but having said that, I imagine on a car without the TIP plugged, it will affect the running for the reason mentioned - unmetered air entering after the MAF, of course there is a hockey puck valve fitted to the TIP, but I'm not sure if it serves as a one way valve or not - most likely not.
-
This breather hose can cause power loss if it has a big hole but if it is a small hole then don't worry about it.
-
Thanks for all the advice guys... the new Breather should be hear soon, so i will keep this updated with the results
-
Or you could just blank off the port on the TIP current occupied by the hockey puck valve and vent to atmosphere or fit a catch can. VW probably charge extortionate amounts for what is a bit of rubber hose.

Cheers, sorry to sound like a complete n00b, but are ther any examples of this with piccys?

I removed all valves and have everything vented to atmosphere - using my rocker cover as a t-piece. The hose leading from the right side of my rocker cover leads ino the atmosphere under the car. My intake pipe doesn't have a port for the hockey puck valve, but on your one, you need only plug it with a hose bung and jubilee clip.
