Right then chaps,
The Golf R400 is confirmed for production as i'm sure most of us know already. I was just reading an interesting article about it which states that the hold-up is VW Engineers having to redesign a new DSG box that can handle the amount of torque.

They are looking at using the up-coming 10 speed DSG box for this purpose. However the Torque figures were reported as only 450NM and APR tuned MK7 GTI's are having 477NM of Torque thrown through them at Stage 1 so why do they need a new DSG box?
Oh and just a little reminder to all you guys jumping ship to the R from the GTI. Remember that this bad boy is likely to be out in 1-2 years time in the UK  I'll be swapping my GTI in then ;)

I'm betting that will be at least £35k, they need to give more than an extra 100ps and stronger gearbox for that hike in price. Will be needing some Recaros or similar in and be at least £3k cheaper than an RS3 with same output to stop people going the Audi route (with guaranteed amazing interior). £35k is a lot of money for a VW badge.

But it does look MINT. Better than an RS3.

Id like to think it would have Recaros/bucket seats. If you can spec them in a Seat Leon Cupra 280 you would have expected them for the R. That car looks awesome...Id end up killing myself or having been fined heavily with 12 points in no time with the R400. Itl come with a fair bit as standard but surely youd be able to spec like 8-10ks worth of extras on it...45k lol?

I suspect it will be much more than £35k. If they only produce limited numbers then it wouldn't surprise me if you are looking at early to mid £40's

If it's a limited run you'd be lucky to get one then.
The RS3 will thankfully have the 5 cylinder variant as far as engine note is concerned.
Most tuned vehicles suggest the factory toque limit is lower than the physical capability of the box, although it's fair to assume the box may not last as long as intended over this software limit.
Maybe the 7 speed DSG could be an option from the previous RS3.

Have VW offically came out and said they are putting the R400 into production?

The VW dealer I spoke to said they have had no confirmation whatsoever of dates or even production yet. In fairness though I was buying an R from him at the time (due mid-October) so he's likely to say that. However a ETA of 1-2 years (as quoted in the opening thread of this post) is not much of a confirmation either so 'who knows'?
Very nice car though...will there be a 5 door do you think?
-
Although 5 doors looks awesome on the r400, I hope there is a 5 door variant. The only reason my wife turns a blind eye to me owning hot hatches is if they have 5 doors.

Wow now that looks amazing!

It has been confirmed for production. A quick google search will throw it up. Expect this to be released in a couple of years. It wS greatly received at Beijing.

Will this mean that vw may forgo a 40th anniversary special edition.
Questions questions questions.

As far as I'm aware this is VW's 40th Anniversary Special Edition.
Golf 400 as in 40 years.

Not 400bhp?? The editions are to celebrate 40 years of the GTI not the Golf so i'd expect them to keep them coming.

Yes 400BHP also. But also to celebrate the 40 year anniversary. I think they'll skip the Edition 40 this year as I honestly can't see where it would sit between the GTI, Cupra and R.
