Title: Dashboard Rattle
Post by: GTI2014 on 07 September 2014, 22:49
Hi All,

I am hearing an annoying rattle (like a vibrating noise) which seems to be coming from around the far right on the dash, around the right vent - this sound is heard around 2000RPM regardless of gear, and if I hold this in 1st gear, the sound is constant.

I have been reading about the wastegate issue but not sure if this is the cause - I also noticed that the noise is much evident when the car is warm.

I would appreciate any advice offered, thanks in advance.

Definately not the wastegate rod mate, that can only be heard really with the windows down and comes from underneath the car, it sounds like it could either be the sound actuator which is located under the scuttle panel or just a trim rattle?

Thanks Jimble.

It is coming roughly from behind the vent but I suspect the sound is originating from deep behind the dash and maybe even from the engine compartment.  Only seems to occur around 2000rpm and much more noticeably when the car is warmed up.

Hi,

After some more research, looks like quite a few people have encountered this intermittent problem with the rattling sound:

Most people say it's the wastegate and fixed with the Clip under TSB 2024061...
