So I have replaced both bushings the one under the car in the box and the one in the engine bay connected to the steering column.
The shifter has now become nice and tight with no play from left to right, but up and down is still sloppy. Can anyone guide me to which part/s I should replace next for a proper shifter?

do you mean up and down as in vertical or forward and backwards?

i had this and that part I picked up in a full kit, and it worked a treat, no slop at all, maybe worth getting someone to sit in it and move it back and forth so you can see if there is any play in any of the other linkages under the bonnet?
