Title: using my phone with the RCD510's AUX function (no BT)
Post by: candywhite12 on 04 September 2014, 16:27
I did not purchase the bluetooth function with my radio but today i tried to connect my samsung with the AUX at the armrest using a 2.5mm jack plug.  Funny thing, it kind of worked.  When the phone rings, I need to answer it and press the AUX function on the RCD510 (or you can have the AUX function chosen anyway but that means no music) - then all audio communication is automatically done through the car speakers.  The steering wheel buttons dont work (except the volume and mute functions).

I was wondering whether anyone else has tried this and whether I could somehow use my steering wheel buttons.

Also, is there any (cheap) way i could add a bluetooth to the radio so i could connect my phone somehow?

The AUX socket only sends sound from the conneced device, not data. That's why the sound of the phone calls is transmitted, but no data to talk to the radio, steering wheel or MFD.

Retro fit kits that use OEM modules and work just like factory installed kit cost around £200 and fitting is dead simple, so not all that expensive for something that does the job properly.

As above, the aux socket is basically like plugging a pair of headphones into your phone except the car speakers are the headphones.

I'd allow an hour to fit and code it.

Everything works just like it would from the factory. Touch screen, steering wheel, MFD, the lot.
