Title: LED number plate lights ....
Post by: VWhitehawk on 01 September 2014, 21:23
I have LEDrear lights on my car at the minute and pressed plates but still have the standard bulbs lighting it.

I was just wondering if people would be able to add there pics of LED number plates. The only reason I'm hesitant is because I have a candy white car and I don't want to have it so it glares off the body work and draws unwanted attention from the police. Also how difficult are they to change?

Thanks for help and advice as always guys and gals!

Here you go mate (I have a picture for every occasion, saddo that I am ).  Took a few night shots a while back.  Not sure if these are any help as it's a black car.

Don't think they are too much trouble to change, but some people just replace the whole unit.  Think you need canbus error free though.

Cheers, I do like the look of them, had them on my old silver car and they were quite bright, the beam going down on to the floor as well. I'll look at you tube & google and so on see what i can come up with.

Its not sad at all, I'm forever taking photos of my car. It's an addiction I think!

I was gunna get the genuine VW led licence plate units but they need to be programmed into the car. Do the canbus error free copy lights on ebay work ok? I've used them on other cars with no errors so they should be ok shouldn't they?

Sorry to be a bore covered this before those number plate lights in the pic are illegal as your car should show no white light as you can see it lights the road behind it, canbus error bulbs did not work for me i got the in-line resistor jobbers just about to fit them

Rebecca's LED number plate lights are from the factory, so I'd hazard a guess at them having type approval.

Police website:
Other lights - It is an offence to show a red light to the front of a vehicle (including a reflector) and a white light to the rear unless reversing. Once again these offences are dealt with by means of a £30 Fixed Penalty Notice. It does not matter if the lights are mounted inside or outside the vehicle, just that the light can be seen from the outside. This would also include neon lights fitted under or on the side of a vehicle and red LED windscreen washer jets. Green lights can only be fitted on Medical Practitioners vehicles.

As dubber says mine are factory so not illegal, I don't think I'll be getting a FPN anytime soon

Those shots were taken from a low down position, so a driver in a car would be seeing the number plate from a higher aspect and wouldn't see the white light part.

This shot is taken from a higher stance.

If they are factory you don't have to. Thats what I'm worried about the reflection off the white paintwork

No police out there anymore, just cut our police traffic lot by half and replaced with cameras everywhere!

Will the genuine OEM led plate lights work on a 2010 mk6 golf if I buy the adapter leads too. I've read with the leads the lights don't require coding but will the light units fit?

Has anyone fitted them to there mk6 with success?

I've ordered some canbus ebay units but I'd really like to keep things OEM if possible.

Cheers

You can use the oem ones from the later cars but you have to use adaptor leads with resistors in to stop the error.
Unless someones found how to code the error out now but a year or so ago it could not be coded out even when the boxes were ticked or the coding changed on the earlier cars due to them using different software to the later cars.

So either lead will do? No coding required? I think I'll return the ebay lights when they arrive and go OEM. Cheers.

Does the top one in the link, the one with the blue resistors fit the mk6? It doesn't list it. The bottom link, the all black leads states golf 6. So I think it's the lead in the bottom link we need for the golf 6?

Hi

I had some resistors that I bought to work with my previous LEDs. The LEDs proved to be poor quality so needed replacing. I bought the VW OEM ones.

I have resistor cables in place that I bought from carsystems - no errors and qood quality.

It's these ones that you can buy from carsystems.pl as a kit - great service and can't fault them.

I have a candy white GTI, with pressed plates and LED number plate lights (error free). My LED's are just an LED with a resistor, total price was about £5 for the LED's and resistors

I will put a pic up later if you want? (If my car will start  )

I got some from MyLitCo. There OEM style, 2 LEDs in the unit that gives a perfect OEM light. Not too bright like the other units. There canbus and I've had no errors. I really recommend them.
