Hi everyone!
Ive been looking at so many different exhausts it's starting to get unreal!
I've found Milltek, Scorpion, Akro, Remus and Bull-x
Don't get me wrong, if I had the $ I would get a Akro! But at £3200 in the uk plus the diffuser there is no way I will fork out for that. +18bhp
The Milltek, well it really doesn't float my boat. Too many people have it and it doesn't sound great +20bhp
The Remus is nothing special +10bhp
Scorpion is tempting but the gains arnt huge! +13bhp
Bull-x really does appeal but I can't find any gains at all from them!
Does anyone out there have any views on the subject? Or know of any other manufacturers to look at?
The Bull-x really does appeal to me from the sound aspect but does anyone have any performance figures for it?
Any help would be appreciated!
-
where is your BCS option?
-
So, at least we understand, now, that you're looking at an aftermarket exhaust for aesthetics and price above performance...
In that case buy the one that sounds the best... or, at least, the one that sounds the best that you can afford/justify...
-
In my opinion it's the Milltek Non-Resonated Turbo Cat Back full system all the way but then again the head office is literally behind my house
From Milltek's FB page;

Will a non resonated cat back give the same crackles on overrun?

I forgot to add BCS in the above. Still waiting on some performance figures back from them

I'm not going for the sound, I'm after best performance figures and lightweight. Not looking at the aesthetics. Hence the Bhp figures listed
I'm also looking for a complete turbo back system

decide what you want more, mid range or top end

Well, of the ones listed, the Milltek must be popular for a reason - maybe it offers the best price/performance compromise. If you're looking for "best performance figures and lightweight" then who cares what it sounds (is sound an aesthetic property?) like or whether everyone has one?
More important than the absolute power gain is where in the range the gains are made and where in the range there are, if any, losses. You might find that the car is quicker with an exhaust that posts smaller gains but across all of the rev range rather than one that advertises massive gains but only, for example, at the top end...

That's a very fair point. Maybe the milltek will be the way to go unless the BCS gives some good gains. I've heard whispers of VWR and APR of making their own systems soon but nothing more and trying to get info on the Bull-x system is almost impossible.
-
BCS is the top one btw
-
APR are developing their exhaust as we speak. They are quite busy though as they're also working on a new intercooler, stage 2 software and bigger turbo. Guessing they'll be released in time for the Stage 2 software. End of this year or early next year.
-
i think its more like theyre waiting to finish their exhaust before releasing stage 2, wouldnt wanna lose out to the competitors would they and most gti owners will be waiting for the software before swapping exhausts
-

Ok cool, what's the difference between both of the traces? Valve open and closed?

It will be interesting to see the APR system. That's a bit odd for them taking so long with stage 2. I was told Revo would have stage 2 possibly ready by the end of September!

In each graph the bottom line is the standard car, the line above in with a tbe on. And no its not that odd, Revo dont make exhausts so why hold back
-
Oh ok, I saw the first graph having a shaft figure of 243hp as the lower figure hence the question. Never seen a stock car with that much power!
-
well they are both on the same rollers but the milltek one is dsg and i think that limits the top bhp figure somehow not too sure.
-
and i get a lot more torque too

Ah ok, that's a bit odd! Lol. They both have auto for the gearbox too. May just be an anomaly? Have you had any experience with the scorpion, Remus or akro for power figures?
-
its what I heard at a dyno day once. No sorry cant comment on other for power, but i have heard the scorpion one on an S3 and it sounds amazing, for about 10mins and then i think it would grate on you lol
-
Thanks for your input :-)
Those figures are really impressive for the BCS though. Looks like it keeps going strong for longer over the milltek as well.
-
It is a good system, and i really enjoy the powervalve aspect that keeps it quiet when i want im hungover. It is worse top end though, not sure if its a more restrictive cat or what but it loses out peak figures wise standard and dtuk stg 2 box when compared to the milltek. Looking forward to a remap though to take account of my induction kit also
-
Ok cool. Which map and intake system will you be using? Do you have an idea when you will do it?
-
im waiting for wagners intercooler to arrive which should be 3 weeks hopefully, and then it'll be mapped, i'll let you guess given the name on the dyno plots
Current intake is the revo/pipercross one but i am toying with the idea of VWR's enclosed system, but even though it will look so much better i doubt it will perform any better so not point changing really, how often do i stand staring at my engine bay lol
-
Ah cool. I've got my Revo intake ready to go on. It's my preferred intake due to the pipe going straight to the Intake from the filter. No joins mid way causing extra turbulence!
Need to make sure I buy the best performance figures with the exhaust as I only plan on buying one system
-
Sorry to interject but the best intake on the market so far is APR's Carbonio Intake due to the ram scoop design and enclosed unit. Much better airflow.
Also, the BCS is more restrictive than the Milltek but is quite consistent gains through the rev range. What's the pricing on a full TBE system on the BCS? Can't find pricing anywhere?
-
Yes and I'm sure when vwrs will be out it too will be the best intake also... We will not know until long after all the releases will be out and people start testing. Ideal conditions an open cone will be better imo but enclosed systems will be better more of time in the real world and cities. Don't know price as was lucky enough to have it developed on mine, email nige I believe it was slightly cheaper than milltek
-
I've been given a rough price by both companies and the BCS is cheaper than the Milltek by a long way. Only advantage to the Milltek is that they are offering free fitting at the moment
-
Great. I thought you had your car mapped already Graham? Isn't VWR intake already out? Believe it's an open cone filter design.
How much were you quoted for both Legless? Isit the TBE Cat Back? Which tips?
-
No I've always had a box but need a map so that all the hardware is taken advantage of
-
Which map you choosing? Did you feel the gains purely going from your stock exhaust to the BCS? Is cabin noise increased? I can't watch the video at the moment.
You indicate that you're choosing Shark. Are they doing an OBD Port flash able map?
-
I'm hoping to map it to stage 2 with my hardware as I say just waiting for the intercooler. Yes they can obd port it, their gtd map has been available for a month now. Noise is of course increased but off boost it's barely noticable
-
And yes I felt the additional bhp just from the tbe

Hi mr savage, I only look for turbo back exhausts. Cat backs are not needed for me. They really are just cosmetic rather than getting power!
I'm all lined up for a Revo stage 1 map too with my car so matching that with the intake is the way to go for me.
-
Vwr are doing two check their fb for pics
-
Will vwr be doing a exhaust system?
-
Most likely they will. Can't think they have much left to concentrate on after they finish the second intake, maybe arbs will be next tho
-
Just heard from vwr! A couple of weeks until they launch the exhaust system. Let's see what their figures are like before I choose
-
If they beat Apr that will be a change for the books, won't be long before vwr start doing their own remaps I reckon

normally VWR systems are made by Milltek

really, they don't have the in house capability, best bit at the moment is they are tuner neutral again
-
I'm thinking long term tbh, it was long ago they just did itg intakes but these are their own so I bet it won't be too long

I did get told that it was a in house system that's had extensive testing by them. Will have to wait and see when it's out!
Would be good if they went the whole way with mapping too. Would be a good platform for them to start on

They do not have an in house manufacturing capability, for as long as I remember they are made by Milltek with some changes requested by VWR, their R is running a Milltek system as its plastered all over the web, I'd be surprised if it anything else given the tie up withe Milltek of the VW Cup

Just stumbled across this video on YouTube. Might make you reconsider the Milltek

I particularly like the way the owner has kept his car so clean to accompany such a set up, really shows great individual character
-
Exhaust sounds great, great piece of road but some twittish driving IMO.
-
Lol I wondered what you were all on about with the driving and ive just watched this and it isn't the video im thinking of lol my bad

Theres also IPE's Exhaust Set-Up for the GTI MK7 which you've not got on your list.
Not got any performance figures but in my opinion it sounds pretty fantastic with open valve and VERY loud. Some will hate the upshifts sound but I love it. Should be great quality too since they make exhausts for Lamborghini and do a great one for the aventador.
