Title: mot failure on a few things.. tax too!
Post by: ChewD14 on 31 August 2014, 16:28
f reg mk2 tour 1.8,

failed on:

both headlamps being off centre

emissions 3.877 pass mark 3.5

hazards not working

indicators both sides not working

wipers not stopping when ignition is on

horn not working

brake spongy

offside front brake binding...????

just a couple of queries really, what exactly are the margins for the head lamp directions, so i know where theyre meant to be exactly? i can sort that myself!
is the emissions something a filter change can solve?
all the elecy things.. ive checked all bulbs all good! i had an sparky come out and he traced it back to the stalks not connecting/connecting constantly and i replaced both, still the same problem!!
what exactly is binding?
also one big thing ive been confused about, what are the requirements for a classic/retro vehicle to be tax exempt? is it the age of the car itself and if so what age does it have to be? and if its not that, is it just mk1s of any car ever that are exempt?

cheers guys i know its a long one! i just cant bare for my old lovely to be sat on my driveway or see her towed away to the scrappers. im just not doing it!

cheers!

Wow, well, at least rust isn't on the list!

Get yourself a Haynes & Bentley workshop manual. It will do you wonders..

The emissions is tricky. There have been people who have ran fuel system cleaners through before a test and had good results, shame it's something you can't test yourself after adjusting bits and pieces. If all else fails though dumping a different engine in it is pretty cheap in the scheme of things, so it won't make he car a scrapper.

I'm useless on electrics so no idea on those.

The pad will be binding to the disc...

The rule is (ATM) that car made before 1974 are exempt from tax. It's pretty much 40 year old cars. So the mk2 has a fairly long wait.
