Title: Updating Maps on RNS510
Post by: Buck on 28 August 2014, 00:03
Hi

Started to notice a couple of times that my maps on the SatNav are getting out of date with road changes etc.

Where can I buy a non-Stealer copy of the latest maps and how easy is it to update?

Also, do I need to update my firmware to accept the latest maps (not sure what my firmware version is but I can check at the weekend)

Thanks all

Hey pal,

Once you have found out what firmware and maps etc you currently have, pm 'dieselman' as he can provide updates. He provided me with my last firmware and maps update and all was ok.

Did you get the firmaware updated ok?

I actually have CD I got from the internet with the newest maps on released late last year but it just fails when I try to load it. I'm unsure if I need to do firmware first but worried I'll brick it

Hi

I've got firmware upgrades and new maps winging their way to me.

I'm told you need to update the firmware stage by stage then once done, install the new maps.

It will all depend what version of firmware and maps you are running and also what hardware edition it is? (Mine is a 'C' version)

I cant access the the secret menu and don't have VCDS to emend it either say not sure what version I'm running.

I had that originally and had it enabled via VCDS (I borrowed one for beer tokens!)

I've now done the first of three firmware upgrades and all went smoothly <phew> and now at v3810.

2 more firmware upgrades to go then v11 maps. Hopefulyl all will go as smoothly for the rest of the updates.

I couldn't access secret menu either so I thought I must have been on a very old version (didn't know whether it was A B or C).

I got a copy from here http://www.my-gti.com/3868/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-download-repository

Upgraded straight to the 3810a_noru version firmware without issues and v8 navigation software. I've heard if you're on 3810 you can keep on upgrading the maps, but I've noticed the system is a touch slow.

@Buck let me know what you think of the firmwares above 3810, whether the interface is faster or not. I don't want to brick the unit so I can live with the slowness provided I can upgrade the maps without a firmware upgrade.

Hi

All seems OK so far on the 3810 - if anything its quicker than before.

Will keep you updated

Updated firmware to 4120 and v11 maps also installed.

Need to find out how to get the speed cameras onto v11 but other than that it is faster and also a slicker interface

Hey Buck,

Glad to hear that you have managed to get it all sorted. I'm on a C revision unit, and currently have v10 maps but only FW v2860. I recently got the latest VW Bluetooth unit and I need updated firmware to get the track names and ability to change tracks.

Can I ask where you got you got all the bits you needed and how much? PM me if you'd prefer. I've been reading up about it all and don't mind giving it a try myself, but the only thing that worries me is the fact that I have a 30GB model and once you get to v3xxx the HDD is split into 3, but on the 30GB model that doesn't leave enough room for the newer maps to go on. What model did you have?

Drop me a PM, I'd love to get this sorted.

Cheers
Jonny
