Title: Spazzing rev counter *fixed*
Post by: Superspecs on 27 August 2014, 23:38
Hi guys,

Have had an unusual problem occur overnight, my rev gauge needle suddenly has a mind of its own. When the engine is off the needle sits fully clockwise off the gauge, when I fire it up it sits either at zero or flaps around all over the shop at around the 1-2k revs mark. Once the ignition is off it slowly crawls back clockwise till it's off the gauge again.

Also the bulb above the rev counter has gone too.

Any ideas? Short circuit? Loose connection?

Cheers

Have a look at this thread: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=112983 where tony_ack has gone to quite a lot of trouble to produce a troubleshooting flowchart for rev-counter trouble.

Hi mate,

I tried the trick of removing fuse 21 and replacing it and despite my skepticism it actually worked. All systems are now working including the MFA.

Im so chuffed! Thanks for all the help.
