hey people! need some advice as i know jack sh*t on engine mods..
From what I can gather a stage 1 revo will mean nothing else has to be changed on the car.. They simply plug it in and go.. simply "uping" the psi or something on the turbo?
Is there any downsides if I get a stage 1 done? anything that could fail or make worse...put more stress on etc.. you get my drift...
I dont have a bottomless pot of cash if stuff did go wrong so really need think this through. thought about a milltek resonated exhaust too but its hard getting stuff done when I dont know nothing about them (potential down sides)
Cheers for any advice as most people on you tube just go ahead and get anything and everything done off dave down the street...
Cheers people!

hey mate, just my two pennies here ... I had revo 1 installed and tested a couple of years back, no additional works were needed but I have to be honest - I don't know other people's experiences - there wasn't that much of a change to how the car behaved that would justify an outlay of 500 pounds. For me it's a big no, i'd say if you want to see real benefits and/or changes to the car, it's stage 2 but obviously that comes with a lot of other stuff you need to change as well. Personally after i tried stage 1 i went back to factory and kept it that way since.

Stock to Revo feels different enough to me. The stock boost is quite tame (around 0.8 BAR/Revo 1.6 ish), you should be able to tell the difference between 210 ps and 250 + ps. The punch and urgency in the mid range particularly noticeable.
I much prefer both VW's I've had with a map, it's not to say they aren't good stock but it makes them more interesting.
Most turbocharged engines are built with varying degrees of headroom depending on the part. In stock there is plenty to go wrong with the engine anyway. By tuning the engine you expose components to greater stress e.g torque/heat/pressure so may shorten the life of certain parts.
So a lot depends on the existing condition of the component, a clutch that has been abused or ridden round town could slip as soon as you remap the engine. However, you might not have any problems for 1000's of miles.
Short of changing turbos, a remap is going to give you the biggest performance increase. Revo is a worldwide distributor of performance software and it is well tested.
-
I can only comment on a Scooby and my current Mk4 1.8T so perhaps peripherally relevant to your question.
A remap is more about torque. My stage 1 1.8T makes more torque all the way from 2,500 to 6,000 rpm than the old peak torque. Peak torque is up over 40%.
That means stamping on the loud pedal at 70 mph in top gets your overtake done much more quickly and safely. It feels more lively all over the rev range.
Yes, power has increased and it goes a lot quicker, by 90% of the benefit is from improved driveability lower down the rev range.
Go for the best spec oil you can at service times to maintain the engine and be sparing on hammering it away from the lights to save the clutch - and get it done!
-
Different car I know, but I had the free trial software on my 1.8T Leon Cupra. It was a bit quicker, but not enough to justify the expense in my opinion. I think when the car is reasonably quick to begin with, it takes something special to make you really notice any sort of power gains. Having said that, I was able to have a before and after drive in a Mk6 GTI that had been Superchips Bluefinned. The car felt pretty good to begin with, but with the Superchips remap, it felt like the standard car turned up to 12.
-
I can second what dubber says, the superchips stage 1 makes the car feel so much more alive. Currently you can get the Bluefin device to load the remap yourself for £359, so cheaper than REVO. Maybe not as much of a power boost, but good enough.
-
I had REVO on my 09 plate GTI and it was an animal afterwards. Going from about 200 lb ft of torque to about 300 at about 2000rpm just makes the car come alive. Headline figures won't get anywhere near a tuned K04 car but it is so much more drivable as a road car using lower revs than the bigger turbo'd models. Perfect. Diesel torque with petrol revs.
I also have extensive experience with Bluefin on the mk6 and can tell you that it is slightly tamer than REVO but much easier to live with - slightly less power and torque but smoother (my REVO got a bit 'fluttery' at part throttle at times and bearing in mind it was a nearly new car with very low miles) and virtually zero wheelspin yet still pulled really well from low revs.
So, REVO 98 RON program agressive, fun in a hooligan sort of way.
REVO 95 RON program tamer, slightly more potent than standard but smooth and economical.
Bluefin Stage 1 a little bit more than in the middle of the other two.
So they all have their upsides and downsides and all made the car more economical than standard if driven with restraint.
Oh and I've got a mint Bluefin handset I can get reset and will sell for a very reasonable price if anyone is interested!
-
I'll third what Simon said about the Bluefin. I've had it three months or so now and I can definitely tell the difference. I've not changed the exhaust or air intake yet so don't doubt that these would make further differences if and when I put those on. But as a standalone product, well worth it in my book.
-
I also have had Bluefin and Revo, but for me they are not in the same league.
Bluefin is an ok map, it made 223bhp & 255lbs on an accurate roller. Now its not all about peak figures for me, but 2 months later when i dyno'd it on Revo stage 1 I got 276bhp and 309lbs.
The car felt so much more powerful and smoother on the latest Revo map, power was instant and pulled like a train to about 6000rmp.
I got REVO in the sale and got it for £350, best £350 I have ever spent.
-
I would also agree with this too. I've been out in a Revo mapped Mk6 and it was definitely quicker than the Bluefin. I just liked the fact that I can put the car back to standard with the Bluefin as and when you want. They will also do another map for you if you were, for example, to change the car and buy a Mk7 for £50.
It's each to their own at the end of the day. Bluefin has kept me interested in the car and hopefully it is not too stressful to the engine. But I do accept that it won't be enough for some.

You can change the map with Revo SPS.
-
Revos stock map isnt a stock map. Its their version of a stock map.
Do a search on the forum for torque clutch and revo
-
Revo is the best map for the MK6 platform and thats a fact
Well, until Nick @R-Tech starts mapping MK6's

cheers for the reply everyone! I knew it would obviously put more stress on certain components..Dont know what to do. In a ideal world i would get the revo stage 1 and hopefully nothing would fail ie clutch and be happy as larry..
will have to have a bigger think on this. thanks everyone though appreciate it! this forum is sweet!

Seriously mate, as long as the car hasnt been ragged daily from birth the REVO will be fine on your car.
Dont make the mistake I did and get Bluefin first only to realize you need Revo in your life.
Do it once, do it right!

The SPS key is a good bit of kit with Revo Stage 1, setting 1-primary running stage 1 with your high octane fuel, setting 2- factory settings running premium 97ron, also another to run on factory and 95ron if you wanted it, stage 1 also comes the a cheeky immobiliser built in, this can also can be set from the key and without the key it ain't going nowhere. 2 of the 7 setting can be used to operate this on/off.
The DSG is also fine at stage 1, 300bh/310lb Revo software is crazy mad, but safe at the same time.
Revo-kids-wife, that order.
-
I couldn't honestly say how many MK6 GTIs I've installed the Revo software on to but I'd guess at a couple of dozen. Only complications (if you can even call it that) i've had is 2 of the higher mileage cars needed replacement coilpacks shortly after the remap, which is something most people know about anyway as it's been an issue since the early 1.8T mapping days over a decade ago.
