Hi,
Are S3 consoles a good upgrade? have a chance to purchase some for a good price.
-
What the hell are console bushes? Got ps4 in there?
-
I assume rear wishbone bushes??
-
Sorry, worded it wrong. S3 Bushes for the front control arm, with the consoles, as they are usually sold pressed in to the aluminium consoles.
-
Well just to share as you mention bushes, i replaced my fabia front wishbone bushes with solid poweflex one's as the standard ones have "holes" if you like which allow flex an ex mechanic mate said they are designed like that to absorb/dampen vibration so to replace with solid is sort of undoing their work but standard bushes are rubbish :-/
-
The bushes are designed to fail after a period of time, all things are! according to a BBC1 program earlier in the week. Upgrade versions will last longer but will need replaced as well after a period of time.
-
Oh yea? And a mate was on a course run by a guy who designed an engine for ford they said it was to good and what not fail so they never used it gits!
-
It's us consumers using consumables, it makes the world go round! if you look on the MK7 forum looks like VW have made a backward step with that model. They complain about squeaks, rattles and knocks. Was considering the GTI due to the better fuel consumption.

How much are they?
I know on the MK4 a popular upgrade were the TT bushes; fitted them to my MK4 and they helped to improve the (woeful) handling
-
about £50 for the TT ones which have no voids. It's cheaper than the £180 WALK kit from whiteline, so I was thinking, as a temporary thing for a year or so, that the S3/TT ones would be a nice upgrade. especially since they are so easy to install

I used the ones off the ibiza cupra much cheaper than powerflex and they don't have the holes

S3 arms are a bit lighter and come with stiffer rubber bushes.
Softer bushes - Smoother/quieter ride.
Harder bushes - More feel and less steering/suspension deviation.
Some Poly bush all round, Google/search for more info.
-
Yeah the S3 console bushes are a good upgrade, they are the mid range between normal GTI and an Anti lift kit like SuperPro or Whiteline.
I cant recommend the SuperPro Kit highly enough, it reduced wheel hop by about 50% and gave a much more accurate feel on turn in. Anything is better than the standard GTI ones though.

So we talking fronts i take it? They look a pig to change if its the rear of the wishbone

yeah front control arm bushes, only a 10 min job, 3 bolts and slide off. but I would recommend an alignment a week or two later to make sure tracking is still bang on.
