Title: Leak
Post by: logeyboy on 22 August 2014, 15:13
Had the car 5 days, just come outside to see a small damp patch underneath.
A quick look shows a clear liquid very slowly dripping from the exhaust back box.

You can just about see it in the red circle on the pic.

Any ideas?

water or oil, could just be seeping from the exhuast if its got a hairline crack or just your a/c drip travelling unusually far. if its just water i wouldnt worry at all

It could only be water or worst case windscreen washer. The fuel tank is the other side of the rear axle. It's probably condensation in the exhaust. Was this leak after a short drive?

It's clear so not oil. I presumed water but never had condensation off a box like that before.
Yes it was a very short drive

Don't think it's that uncommon, my mate had exactly the same thing in his mk5 which was diagnosed as condensation after only doing short journeys.

Condensation sounds very likely, particularly if the car's been outside during the very cold nights we've had this week, followed by a short trip. Take it for a longer run, enough to burn off any condensation, and see if the problem's still there.
