I know this has been discussed before on here, but has anyone sorted this out? Mine has it, and it has been into the dealership for 3 days now and they say they cannot find it, they can hear it, but cannot identify it!
They are requesting to put it back together and give me it back. As they have given up!
Who else has had it and had it fixed? what the hell was it???

Isit the buzzing sound coming from somewhere in the drivers side door panel?

It sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash, behind the radio.
They have tried taking most the car out, unplugged the sound actuator thing as well.. Nothing!!

I had this problem and it was in and out of the dealership three times before they identified what the problem was. It was to do with the lack of soundproofing around the chamber where the sound actuator sits. I've been buzz free now for about 5 months thank god as it was really infuriating me. I know what your going through but there is a solution and all VW dealerships shouĊd be aware of it as it's been widely reported. I've been told that any issues that are flagged up are fed back to VW directly so they can issue TSB's to all their dealerships.

I have this problem with mine. It has been identified as a rattling turbo rod actuator clip. been driving me insane for 3 months. They have assured me that when it goes in next Tuesday it will be fixed.
Mine is worse when the engine is cold and pulling in first or second gear mainly. is yours similar?
I'll let you know the outcome of mine next week!

I had this same issue with mine. I read somewhere that it may be a hose in the engine bay near the firewall. I moved some of the hoses, cables and clips near the firewall and it stopped since.

My 2013 GTD had a really annoying buzz from the dashboard around 1500 - 2000RPM from new. Stuck with it for 10,000 miles. The dealer removed the dashboard to get to an aircon pipe rattling against the bulkhead. That completely solved it and it's impossible to tell they've had the dash out.

I have this issue on my car. I cant replicate the noise to the dealership as its intermittent. Is there a TSB for this? There seems to be a few ways to fix it

Your TV has a fault (old days ) guy turns up nothing   90% chance from the rev symptoms
it's the Insulation round the sound actuator . Had it GTI and my current 7R once done no probs since
It is quieter but you get more feed back exhaust and turbo wise for real Involvement  as long
as the windows are down

I had the exact same annoying sound when I collected the car in July and almost turned round and took it back to the dealer. It felt to be coming from the drivers door near the A pillar but by trial and error I traced it to the plastic cowling under the steering rack. Holding the cowling firmly stopped the noise and it wasn't as bad if the steering column was pulled slightly forward - not my preference.
In the end I fixed it by taking the cowling apart and sticking an anti vibe pad on the inside of the lower section which has stopped it resonating. I would be surprised if this wasn't causing the same problem for others so worth checking.

Sadly the GTI is riddled with little buzzing sounds and rattling sounds that end up being something very minor and silly but it puts a real downer on the quality feel of the car. I've been driving around with radio off and climate control off recently and you can hear everything. Front suspension clunks over poor surfaces at low speeds, rear suspension knocking, buzzing from the drivers door panel (probably the one you're describing), the iPod cable cover rattles if closed occasionally too and the sunroof is also making a slight sound.
Actually to the op, it could be the iPod cable cover that's causing your rattle. Try closing/opening it when the sound starts to see if it goes away.

You're right about the suspension clunks front and rear. My steering column cover rattles first thing in the morning but if place my hand on it the rattle goes. Comes back again though over bumps and poor road surfaces.

Mines pretty good now on the rattling front but it's not in the same league as my old 2011 mk6 which still feels more refined under the ownership of my bro!
