Hey people, I need some serious advice on what to do with my MK5 Golf Gti Edition 30,
my engine is seriously overheating badly!
it sits at 90 for about 5 mile then rises and rises quick, I haven't ran it over 120 yet always turned it of to cool down,
first things first, Its bin to my local garage an had loads of bits done to try an solve this problem but I'm no further!
fans are working fine.
no excessive use of coolant.
no coolant leak.
no excessive use of oil.
no loss of power.
no excessive use of fuel.
its had a new Thermostat, Fuel pump, radiator, an all pipes flushed, an head gasket checked,
an its still overheating! I'm £500 down an still no fix!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys
ps. I did run it rather low on oil a few days before it started overheating, low enough to put the oil light on the dash,
I've bin told many times that this wont have anything to do with it but I'm still unsure, its abit coincidental.
thanks again guys

Looks like you've checked everything but the waterpump?
-
Get someone with VCDS to read the ECU for fault codes, and as mentioned you haven't looked at the water pump (which will also require a cam belt change really).
-
Oil cools the engine as well as the water.....
Check your oil level and check your oil cooler both sides i,e water is flowing as well, might be a pita on the Mk5 I don't know.
Water pump is a very good shout, many have plastic impellers or soft metals which dissolve overtime in incorrect solution.

Water pump or major air lock
-
Thanks guys appresiate the advice,
I forgot the mention but i had the water pump, cam belt, an tensioner all done my Volkwagon 2 months ago, the cooling system has also been checked for any air locks yesterday an thats clear, so im still no further in figuring it out :S
Any more help would be greatfull

What about checking the engine temperature sensor, giving an incorrect reading. You've done about everything else.
-
Defo water pump syndrome, Impeller is spinning on its shaft, giving a restricted flow.

Would a water pump 2 months old fail?

Would a water pump 2 months old fail?
It could do yes and if it has it should be warranty
-
Engine temp sensors my next move i reckon, if thats not it then its going to have to go to VW an have a look at that Water Pump, an yeah its got warrenty so if the pumps faulty they will cover the parts an labour costs,
So do you guys not think theres any connection with it being ran low on oil an now overheating?
Cheers guys :)

Maybe, you could have damaged the engine.
-
How long was it run on low oil? The 2.0 TFSI engine needs good oil and plenty of it all the time.
-
I think it is damage to the engine but its very strange how everything still works fine? I have been giving it some pedal often an theres no loss of power
Very very strange
-
The Oil light came on and i drove about 2-3 mile to the nearest garage to buy some an filled it up there, so not long really, but im no mechanic haha
-
Was the warning light a level or pressure indication
-
I once refurbished the crank on a Cortina for the sake of a faulty oil pressure switch.
If you can, I would get the gauge checked with VCDS before paying out the labour for a new pump to be fitted.
And don't take long with it. The headgasket will not like the additional expansion and contraction it is suffering from not running at a stable temp.
-
Im not sure it was just an icon of an old oil boat, like a gravy boat ha,
And how would i go about getting the VCDS checked mate? Do local garages do it? I know its need sorting asap before the head gasket starts to give up :/
Thanks guys :)

There are two temp sensors. You can compare one to the other with VCDS.
It will cost you £20 or so to get it read . Ask on this forum if there are any members that would do it for you.

Any updates here mate? Hopefully the overheating issue has now been resolved!!

I've just spotted this thread, If your close to Selby we do full code scans for £20.
