Hi Folks,
Hoping some guidance here. Cut a long story shot, my mate has offered me his private reg free of charge as he has no use for it now. He says all I have is pay the £80 transfer fee which is fair do’s.
When looking at the DVLA process over the weekend, it looks like I need about 5 freaking forms or something (V317 & V62). I found it quite confusing as well due the circumstances with his car. I have never had or used a private reg before.
His private reg is attached to his golf which is SORN’d. It has been taxed in the past 12 months, but none now and has no MOT. The car is due to destruction soon. On the V317 it states we both need to provide MOT certs (im sure his is ran out). From what I read elsewhere, if there is no MOT then it has to be provided to VOSA for inspection? Tourble there is the car is no condition to be even jacked up, let alone inspected by VOSA.
Can anyone shed any light on this, or anyone who has done this before. it would be appreciated.
Cheers
Liam

Just been through transfering a plate and putting the retained one back on and it took ffin ages to get the paperwork through.....
They are very busy/understaffed at the minute.
It does not help with your questions about forms (ours were sorted by the dealer/mum) but I do know it took fookin ages so dont be suprised if you have to wait

Your mate should have put the plate on retention while the car was still mot'd, I think you are now beyond forms, and into grovelling phone calls to dvla, can be done, but now a pain in the arse! If it's a low value ten a penny number, I wouldn't bother with the hassle

Thanks VW Bush for your view.
Thom89 - Was thinking this may be the road too. I will give them a call tomorrow. The car was also subject to an insurance claim recently under the private reg which is giving me some goose bumps I will admit.

As far as i'm aware it must be taxed and mot'd to retain a private reg. When i got my car the previous owner was meant to take his number plate but he pissed about so much in sending the forms away the tax ran out and i put it off the road so he lost his chance and I ended up applying for the v5 and taking ownership of it.

Gti_Jamo is right, it does need to be taxed and mot'd
