Title: Engine Louder when air con off?

Hi,

bit confused by the gtd today which i didn't notice before, when the air con is off the engine makes a tapping noise like tappety but as soon as I turn the air con on, the engine becomes quieter and the noise is gone, just a slight hum of the air con compressor, anyone else noticed this, I know you all have GTI's but maybe you guys have noticed this?

Bit of reading around, says the air con clutch? or aux belt, or the pulley itself, how much am I looking at? also what should I start with first?

Surely when you turn it on its more load on the engine so less noise

gonna claim that clutch is gone on warranty, probably have a new aircon compressor, and bye bye rattly noise, checked with other mk6's only mine makes this rattle noise, makes the engine sound unrefined :(
