Title: what would u do
Post by: ians on 15 August 2014, 08:49
I damaged my back about 4 years ago. Had physio had all the treatments available. I'm not a pill popper so try to manage as best I can. Recently its got alot worse and at times I struggle to even get in my mk2 golf gti. I had it very low on coilovers, raised it up last month to only a -45 mm drop but the ride still proves problematic. I really dont want to down grade to does new car...but is it acceptable to drive a standard height car?

I damaged my lower back a while ago and it flares up now and again as severe sciatica and i too avoid the pills but have noticed when i drive modern new cars it makes it worse but driving my lowerred corrado it's spot on. Mk2's look good at normal ride height so i'd just raise it up to suit your needs but given the complexity and variations of back trouble only you can know what's best for it.

Don't want to give any medical advice. But you could put the original suspension back on but with eibach lowering springs. Will be lower than standard and should be a much smoother and less harsh ride. You could also try different wheels will larger profile tyres also  to give a little more cushion.

This is the exact set up I have. It rides lovely. I had coilovers on when i first bought the car and couldnt stand it! And I have nothing wrong with my back! Mine sits -30mm which i think looks just right, but I thing eibach do lower spings than that.

The springs are progressive, so you should get a slower stance without compromising too much on ride quality. It will certainly be a LOT better than coilovers.

Put it back to standard (which it totally acceptable).  If that doesn't improve things - then time to sell.

Ahh good idea with the shocks and springs, I think I'll go with that set up. Cheers (y)

Switch back to standard setup

Yep im putting it back on standard suspension this weekend, depending on how that feels I still have the option of getting some eibach springs in the future.
