Hi guys, my first post so please be gentle
Right I will be ordering a Mk7 GTI by the end of the week and I'm after some advice on options and haggle room.
The options that are a must have for me are:
Keyless
Rear camera
Pure white
The options I'm not sure whether to get are:
Discover nav
Dynaudio
Reflex silver
Keyless and rear camera are cheap little options that I believe will keep me entertained. My current car (audi a3) has Bose which is very good, I'm not sure how good the standard system is in the GTI but do you guys think an upgrade in audio is worth it?
Nav is something that I think would make life easier not necessarily better as I have a TomTom live which I must say is awesome, I don't really use the nav as I tend to know where I'm going but would be more convenient on those long trips.
If there's any options you guys believe as a "must have" please but it forward as I'm all for toys.
Now last time I purchased a car new in all the excitement I forgot to haggle, I've had quotes from car wow and they have come back at roughly 24k with pure white keyless and rear view, the problem I have is will they take that discount off my part ex?
If you guys don't mind I wouldn't mind knowing what you guys paid for your GTI's including extras, at least then I'll have something to aim for.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Hi,
I have looked into discounts and found that drive the deal to be the best. I ordered a 3 door ,White GTI performance pack with Dynaudio for £24670. Thats 12% discount. If money was not an issue I would order a few extras but personally having talking to a few people the standard spec is pretty good. People seem to buy the camera as its cheap. Keyless, well putting in a key in is no hardship :)
My local dealer in Cornwall would not even speak to me when I mentioned 12% discount. I had a quote of around 9% discount through carwow. I live in Cornwall and the supplying dealer is in the south east. They will deliver but I will collect as I am saving over £700 from the dealer in exeter and they provide a full tank of fuel. Hardest part is choosing the colour ...... now the red looks nice :)

The only two options I couldn't live without are the performance pack and keyless entry. Having in-built nav is a nice feature and means you don't have wires dangling over the dashboard. I have heard good things about the Dynaudio but the standard radio is fine IMO.

Forget reflex silver! Go tungsten silver, much nicer IMO!

Oooh you'll open the floodgates with a question like this
Colour and optional extras are the most subjective things to ask.
I'd go with Keyless - gives the car a quality upmarket feel.
White - obvs. Silver getting a bit dated now.
Discover Nav is expensive and if you're happy with your TomTom Live and don't use it that often I say don't tick.
Like CraigW I'm more than happy with the standard sound system. It's very good with plenty of oomph for me. However many on here will beat you round the head on the virtues of Dynaudio being a must have! Again quite expensive and if you're not that into high-end hi-fi then save some money.
With the money your could save on not ticking the boxes for Discover Nav and Dynaudio you could upgrade to the Performance Pack. Food for thought.
Oh yeah aim for 12% discount. Use Drive The Deal as a start and then use it to beat the dealer round the face with. Always amusing watching them squirm. Mind you my dealer didn't flinch when negotiating the discount on my GTI - which was even more then 12%!
Welcome btw

As above really, Drive the Deal is the place for discounts, offering around 12%.
Options wise, Keyless and Reversing Cam are excellent and make the car feel much more upmarket. IMO, not having Sat Nav goes against this, I wouldn't be without it.
The one option I simply couldn't do without is DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control). Yes it's expensive but the adaptive damping is remarkable and the car rides brilliantly.
I didn't go for the Performance Pack and although I've never driven one, I have found myself wanting THAT DIFF on the odd occasion where I've been attacking a B-Road.
Colour is very subjective, you've got to pick whatever your gut instinct tells you to go with. For me, TR was the only choice as I had a MK5 GTI in that colour and loved owning it. However, White/Silver/CSG/Limestone are all wonderful colours too. Spoilt for choice!
I've found the standard sound system to be excellent to be honest. Money no object, yes I'd have selected Dynaudio but I was already stretching my budget. I think it sounds really balanced for the music I listen to (blues/rock/pop/country rock).
Either way, you'll get a stunning car. I've done just over 6000 miles in mine now and it's a wonderful thing to live with.

Options are very personal, for me I'd not be without the Sat Nav because I don't like having extra clutter. That being said the £750 "basic" nav isn't as good as the CoPilot app I used to use.
Keyless is one option I would of liked on my car but couldn't justify the cost, the start button is cool though.
-
On the colour, it's a very personal choice. I had a good look at a reflex silver mk7 at the weekend. Now it was Irish poverty spec so no xenons, but it looked like a normal Golf. It was way too subdued for my liking. I got red and I love it, but I have a sneaking regret that I did not order Carbon Grey. It would be far more work to keep than the red but it looks mega in the sun.
On options, Kessy is a cool and cheap option in the uk. I dont use the nav in the Discover Pro that often but the big screen really lifts the dash. The lane assist is a brilliant option and a great show-off feature to passengers: I can take my hands off the wheel and let the car steer itself around the bend.

The options you must have are:
Pure White
The options you're not sure whether to get are:
Reflex silver
:undecided:
I don't know how you'll fit them both on
Seriously though, options are so subjective.
There are a good few threads about must haves and what would you not include next time, worth a read.

I got the Sat Nav Pro purely because of the bigger screen. I don't know if I'd spec it again. My old A1's technology Pack with Sat Nav puts the VW to shame as it can go online etc for places.
Park Assist I specced because it was cheap and have only tried it out once. To show the kids LoL
Rear View Camera I specced as I had it on the Mk6 and found it an absolute must have. I even delayed my order as VW had ran out of cameras so you couldn't order a GTI/D with it. However I don't seem to use it as much this time around probably because of the parking sensors. But for the price its ok.
DynAudio isn't for everyone but is for me. Great crystal clear sound and much better than the Audi Sound System upgrade I had.
Winter Pack would be a definite.
Welcome along.

Wow cheers for the warm welcome and great comments.
I managed to get out of work quite early today so I made for the nearest vw dealer.
After chatting to the salesman for around a hour I managed to haggle a pretty decent discount for a pure white gti with 3 options:
Keyless
Rear camera
Winter pack
Then a salesman from another branch turned up with a gti with PP, 19" wheels, dsg, rear camera and a sub in the boot.
So we went for a lengthy test drive......
Wow what a car, we did a junction or 2 on the motorway then a long drive back through county roads.
The GTI pared with dsg really is a good package but I couldn't help but feel slightly out of sync with the car therefore I believe manual is more for me. The performance pack I don't think is for me as I wouldn't be using the car on track days, saying that though it grips incredibly well. The rear camera came in hand when parking and it's quite cool how it pops out the badge. All in all the car is a great package and was quicker than I thought it would be.
Going back to the price the dealer printed off the quote for me and I will go to another dealer by the end of the week and aim to get the best deal.

Only comment I can make is...depending on what sort of driving you do the high beam assist is a cheap but very good function. I do drive quite a bit on country roads at night and it works very well....very happy I added it.

Cheers Ian I'll look into that, on another note I am curious about lowering springs for the gti. Is their any chance someone could post me up a link to how different springs look or a few pics. I think springs is the only option as I want to close the arch gap without to many problems.

I'm in the same boat looking for a 3dr dsg with PP
Options
Keyless
Park assist steering
Rear camera
Local dealers won't play ball in discounting and told it will be 6 months before I get the keys once I order
What is a reasonable discount ? 10%
-
Would agree about high beam assist, definitely worth it for the money.
I added park assist as it not only uses the extra sensors for parking itself, but it adds 360 degree coverage for the parking sensors. Also, it was only £150ish
10-12% is pretty much all you'll get as far as discounts go.
Mine's Pure white , but I added leather (not keen on the checquered cloth), dynaudio (I spent £1200 on ICE in my Astra - never again), park assist (cheap option), high beam assist (cheap option), keyless (liked the idea of it and a cheap(ish) option) and rear view camera (cheap option). I also added PP as the diff (on the rare occasions I have a spirited drive) is worth it on it's own and the brakes are superb and look loads better than the non PP brakes. Never driven a non PP car so can't comment on if it's better than a non PP.
Happy with (and would recommend) all my choices of options (although I realise not everyone shares my views on the cloth, dynaudio and PP) as for the money, they all add great functionality to the car
