Title: De cat after remap?
Post by: Gtichef on 11 August 2014, 22:59
I need to know if its worth doing or even if it will ruin my car. It has all the usual stage 1 mods. I just didnt get around to decat before i got it mapped. I have a second hand oem down pipe and cat which i plan to cut out the cat and replaice with a straight pipe. Keeping mine for MOT time. Will my car be worse off? Im not looking for a full 10hp im more after the better response and maybe a little more burble! The last thing i want to do is fork out another £300 for another remap and mild increase in bhp and torque. Any help would be really apreciated. Golf mk 4 1.8t gti agu

Ive recently decat my aum and it definitely makes a difference,  louder, smother and faster mid range, and mine is more economical too, definitely worth doing

My worry is as i have already remapped it its going to be worse of than it is now. As long as it doesnt lose hp im ok with the extra response and mid range boost. :)

wownt loose HP, however you may have troubles with engine management light or emissions light (not sure if these have an emisions light?).

if so you will have three options, have the map tweeked, put the standard cat back on, replace with a decat (or maybe live with the emissions light, not sure if it forces the car into "safe mode" i.e. very low boost)

AGU doesn't have an engine management light or a post cat lambda so you'll be fine with the decat.

You'll notice better throttle response and just generally a freer revving engine. It would have been better to have it on there when it was mapped but retro fitting it won't do any harm
