I'm looking to upgrade my mk6 bulbs from the standard yellow halogens to some osram night breakers. I've found a kit that has H7 dipped beam and H1 sidelights/daytime running lights.
Are these the bulbs I need? I've checked my owners manual but it doesn't state which bulbs to use.
-
Dipped beam is H7,main beam and DRL are H15, no Nightbreaker option for the H15, but Autobulbs are offering an upgrade bulb.

unfortunately out of stock at present

Has nobody tried any aftermarket LED bulbs?
-
Cheers Mustard, I'll invest in a pair when there back in stock. Thanks again!
-
Thank you mustard, just put in an order, never thought these existed!

Don't know if it helps anyone but Amazon have got the H7 at a very good price at the minute.

I've also registered my email to know when them H15's are back in stock.

Ultra also do a ice white/blue tint road legal bulb but there £44 which is expensive just for slightly brighter lights.

Decided against the ultra bulbs.....
Thinking they won't match the bright white osram night breakers. Bright white then the DRL being a blue tint, wouldn't gel I think.

What DRL/Main beam bulbs are you running mate? H15's upgraded?
-
Haven't upgraded the H15 yet, waiting on them restocking. Found the blue Ultra H15 bulbs but not keen on the blue tint that the ultra bulbs have. I just want bright white to match my osram night breakers.

I was told no-one bar vw make the drl bulb thats another plus 1 when back in stock :-)

i'm pretty sure osram's website has a tool that shows you exactly which bulbs you can use for which car

FYI - the upgraded H15's are back in stock at auto bulbs direct. I didn't get an email to tell me even though I signed up  just happened to have a look tonight. Use discount code JCPRO5 for just over a quid off

Has anyone fitted LED replacement 501s?
I'm toying with changing mine but a recommendation would be great

Thanks for the info, also registered for notification, but no e-mail, order through Quidco and get £3.60 back (eventually).

Quite like the look of these, so this is a replacement for the DRL? Has anyone fitted them, the whiter the better for me.
-
Yes they are a replacement for the DRL/Main beam, ordered them and will try and post a picture when they are fitted.
-
Look forward to seeing them.
-
Mines just arrived. Too busy to fit them but looking forward to seeing what there like.
-
Been trying to fit these bulbs for the past hour. The original pops in and out with little of ease but the new bulb just won't go in. An hour on one bulb. I'd like to hear other peoples experiences with fitting before attempting it again. Anyone fitted there's yet?
-
Managed to fit one of mine and then broke the other one (on the battery side). Very hard to get your hands in. The upgraded bulb was slightly whiter than standard. But not going to spend 15 quid to replace the one I broke. So put standard back in and turned DRL's off.
-
That's a shame mate. The one you did manage to fit, did it go in easily or was it awkward? If there not that much brighter it seems a chew on for nothing really but it's £30 wasted.
-
The drivers side was easy enough. But the passenger side difficult. I removed the air filter cover. Still had to push the filter box as far backwards as I could. A lot of pushing and twisting on the bulb caused me to break it and it blew straight away. I don't think the £30 I paid would have been worth it. £15 maybe. They also made the reflector appear blue.
-
I remove the air box completely, makes it a 10 minute job, can't say that the bulbs make that much difference yet, but them I haven't seen them in the dark yet.
-
Thanks for the update guys, gonna hang for a bit with mine.
-
Think it's gunna be removal of the air box for me. Would just throw the bulbs in the draw and leave the lights how they are but I'm tired of wasting money like that, my draws, cupboards and garage are full of wasted items
-
Well I managed to get another bulb to replace the one that I broke. My verdict on the whiter H15 is they are crap! Nearly exactly the same as the standard ones. But whiter in the dark but u would never use the drl's in the dark anyway. In summary a waste of £30.
