Title: That Blinking Red Temp light thing......
Post by: Tomonator1985 on 09 August 2014, 10:45
Hi,

I can find loads of threads on basically "how to ignore the red flashing temp light" BUT i wanted to check what is realllllly means apart from high temp before i ignore it or change the sensor.

Light flashes from start up so it can;t be heat related.

Anything else it could be?

Cheers already:)

talking about a mk2 are we?

could be low coolant warning (or faulty/dirty electrodes in the expansion tank), not sure the mk2 had that already, my mk3 certainly did.

could be faulty temp sender but you can check that with a multimeter easily. i posted a guide in mk3 section few times, the temp/resistance curve on a mk2 is pretty similar but you may still have two separate senders depending on engine

coolant is fine. may just give it a good clean then see how it is. then fork out the mighty £4 for a new sensor!

cheers!

I have this on my mk4 on start up, I just assumed it was telling me my engine is cold.
