Title: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available
Post by: monsta on 07 August 2014, 21:27
310BHP - 320BHP, 320 - 340 lbft of torque;

http://www.revotechnik.com/product-details/software/volkswagen/golf-vii/182/stage-1/#.U-PfJPldX6V (http://www.revotechnik.com/product-details/software/volkswagen/golf-vii/182/stage-1/#.U-PfJPldX6V)

Less torque than APR but BHP is close, they don't mention fuel type for those figures though...

Could be the perfect map for me , good bhp but dsg friendly torque,.

Peak figures are never all that important it would be interesting to see graphs side by side and also 0-60

Impressive. And it's just 1/4 of the APR remap price.

Let's wait and see UK prices first. Would be nice to see a bit of price competition tho

RRP is £599 plus VAT, same for the Mk7 R. There is a 20% sale at the moment but that ends Saturday, although I'm sure I could sort something out for forum members

for me its all how it drives on the road rather than peak numbers especially in a fwd car

they were very mindful of intake temps on the R when developing that rather than pushing the big numbers

My local REVO dealer said this was imminent the other day.
He did one of the first retail flashes in the country on an R recently and said it was an animal on full chat!

£575 inc VAT from APR at the moment in their sale...

has to be said Stage 2 KO4 performance is pretty impressive by APR and Revo

Heard from Revo today they are extending their summer sale to the end of August, so it is exactly the same price as the APR software... coincidence???

So who's booked in for a REVO map? Real time review required!

Having looked at the graphs for Apr and Revo, the Apr has way too much torque for me and comes in too early. The Revo follows standard at the beginning then mirrors the standard map which IMO will be more sympathetic. Hence will be going for Revo, but will wait for stage 2. Any ideas how long that will be?

I'm hoping to get mine booked in next week  so will post my impressions, I think revo have done the best job looking at the graphs, Apr are pushing out some impressive torque , but fear it's going to break something.

Revo's stage upgrade path means you won't lose any money going for stage 1 then upgrading at a later date. i.e pay for stage 1 and then when you're ready you just pay the difference in cost between the stage 1 and 2 maps to upgrade (usually £50 +vat). I would imagine the Stage 2 software will be ready with in the next few months.

I've Revo'd a couple of Mk7 Rs, itching to get my hands on a GTI now

Never done anything like this.... What does it do to warranty and insurance?
Title: Re: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available
Post by: GrahamFR on 10 August 2014, 09:01
Voids the warranty increases the insurance.  If you have to ask that question go buy a tuning box instead mate

Or to be more precise - voids the warranty on parts affected by the remap (IE, engine and drivetrain components) and increases your insurance.

A pleasant answer to a genuine question well done!!

The ideal soln is still OBD tuning when a tuner can develop a way where your average vw dealer cannot detect that the car been fiddle with. The tuning box is a good solution but it is fiddly to remove with every service and if one have an accident at the front end, it is difficult or impossible to remove the tuning box from a crumpled engine bay. I will only remap or put non-factory bits on if my local dealer who will sell me tuning parts from vw racing etc... and will still claim from vw uk if engine bits break down.

Better solution is to wait for the mk8 Golf R or go to other brands Audi RS, Merc amg, Bmw m.

The graph of the REVO looks better to me compared to the APR map. I'm really keen to here people's review when somebody has it done on a PP GTi with DSG.

I'm getting mine booked in soon and it's a PP GTI with DSG. I'll do a write up once it's installed ;)

Got mine revo today on my gti pp dsg,& all I can say is you will not be disappointed, it's turned the car into animal on full throttle but kept it's drive ability around town, I very badly recorded the car going from 0-80 on a private road.http://youtu.be/vIiGNCp1RlY

How are the gear changes with the REVO map on the DSG? I read that the APR is rough between 1st and 2nd, is it the same with the REVO?
Title: Re: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available
Post by: gazmondo35 on 16 August 2014, 20:15
I had heard people running apr remaps were experiencing  rough gear changes, this is probably down to the amount of torque they have, I have had no problems gear changes are perfect & mpg has improved.

I was about to get mine done until the whole weak turbos thing came about and I found out mines one of the affected. Think I'll take the plunge and get it done next week anyway.

I nearly cancelled myself while turbo gate was going on, but I see it like this, if vw do a recall I should still get a replacement because the turbo has been deemed as faulty, but anyway its been a week since I got it revoed & I'm still amazed how quick it's made the car,&on recent 100 mile trip to Norfolk it returned 41mpg & I wasn't exactly hanging about.

Just got mine done this morning over at Midlands VW. Top job from Topher :) The improvement is huge, definitely worth it! Although Revo's gains are a bit optimistic!

My best readout was 295.5BHP & 312LBFT torque on the rolling road. That's on setting 2 with Shell V-Power.

Revo claim 320BHP & 340LBFT.

295 bhp is little bit down on revo's suggested 310-320, but I did find the map woke up after about 200miles , so maybe more power to come.

What Ron you using?

What Ron you using?

Yes, well the quoted figures are in ideal conditions with race fuel i'm guessing on the highest performance setting set on the SPS.

I'm running Shell V-Power which I believe is 98RON? hence it's on Performance Setting 2 to accommodate that. Figures are always usually slightly overexagerated. I can see how they get the quoted figures though.

It's an absolute animal in 2nd, 3rd and 4th! Pulls so hard all the way through the rev range, literally throws you back into your seat and keeps you there. It's been putting a huge grin on my face every single time! Loving it!

Maybe just a bad Dyno or not enough air getting in. Try a panel filter if you wanna stay oem look

i notice revos own dyno graph shows the stock figures about 20bhp higher than what Mr Savages car made. hmmm dyno accuracy and variations would need to have a whole new topic started

Yep. Look at the torque at stock too 380NM over the states 350NM that's R torque levels and over 250BHP stock.

Revo's dyno is definitely generous as I fail to believe the units are pushing those figures stock ;)

i'm sure it goes on, but in this case its more likely just overreading. might be a drivetrain loss issue, we measured less than 10% losses on 2 identical Mk7 GTIs one dsg one manual (both making the power/torque figures too). wouldn't take much percentage wise at 300 ish hp to go 20bhp either way. as someone pointed out though might be worth dynoing again after a few hundred miles to see if the ecu has found any more power with its own adjustments... im sceptical though because i've seen what happens to the intake temps after 3 dyno pulls :nerd: which is not a fully accurate representation of what is going on while out on the road

Title: Re: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available

Worth every penny. Still loving it. The car's power is out of this world for a Stage 1 GTI and it has the added piece of mind that it isn't taxing the clutch as much as the torque centric APR map would be.
Title: Re: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available
Post by: cheets7 on 18 September 2014, 07:36
Well stage 1 should be easily on par with an R if not quicker from what i have seen! Thanks for the update.

The car has gone from being a good car to a great car, can not recommend it enough , there wouldn't be many cars on the road under 50 grand that would keep up with it,& the added bonus is fuel consumption has greatly improved.

I now its old news...but...what are you guys who have been remapped doing on the "TD1" flag situation...?
Are you getting flashed back before any dealer visits..?...Or just not bothered..??

I really want to get remapped but I dont have a Revo or APR dealer that close to me so flashing back will be a right pain in the back side.

Thanks
Ken

For me I think I'll probably tell them, so they don't flash the ecu on a service , even if you get revo to put the car back to stock vw will still know it's been done because every time you remapp the car there is a counter on the etu that can't be changed.
Title: Re: REVO Stage 1 GTI Remap Available
Post by: kenny.c on 20 September 2014, 17:10
Thanks for your reply.....the flash counter can easily be reset....I know APR do so during the flashing process.

The problem comes with the "checksum" number the actual file produces on the ECU......this will change once the map has been changed and can never be the same again. Even an official VW ECU update will change this checksum...but then the VW database will be updated to reflect this.

Its well documented Audi use the "TD1" flag which basically happens when the dealer plug in your car and connect to the dealer system.....Should the checksums not match your chassis number gets tagged "TD1" and voids your engine warranty.

Saying all this ive not actually heard of anyone having a TD1 flag attached to their VW in the UK.....

Im very interested to hear from people with remaps who have been back to dealers and been plugged in...

Ken
