been going over this in my head and can't make a decision.
my mk3 is my weekend/holidaying drive car so isn't essential to me getting around.. after slowly fixing her up the next big thing on my list is fixing the rust..
She's got..
Passenger floorpan
Both sills, particularly under the sill covers - about a foot back from the arches needs attention
Sill rusty right up to the front where the front wheel arches connect (that tiny bottom panel is crunchy like cornflakes)
aaaaand I haven't had the balls to take my arch covers off yet. When I peeked from the inside they didn't look too bad but a bit of flash rust, but i daren't look closer for what I might find!!!
And I don't know if I should sort them now, or wait till summer's over and carry on driving her until then, and then get them sorted.
Friend of a friend quoted only £80-100 depending how much has to be ground back which really isn't too bad. That's not including the arches, but I'd rather get it all done at the same time. Don't know if he can also paint them back up or someone who works for him can, so I'm budgeting for that too.
He did the MOT too and was exclaiming on about how good the body is, how little rust for a mk3 rotbox, so I'm hoping actually the majority of her won't be too bad at all.. but you never know do ya..
So. Now or over winter? Discuss!

Take it to a body shop and get it done properly. The rust will have to be completely cut out to be done perfect

Well the guy I know can sort the welding.. it'd then need to go to a body shop to be painted up. terrified of the cost.. unless I can make friends with a painter (I'm trying lol)
but I don't know whether to do it now or enjoy driving it until autumn and then get it done.
EDIT: Should probably clarify, the guy I know is a mechanic and owns his own garage so it'll be welded professionally rather than a driveway job haha
EDITv2: BTW while i'm here if anyone's a painter around the london/south bucks/watford sort of area do give me a shout

I specifically waited for the Summer to get mine done. Just easier lol. Best £450 I have spent. Car looks newer then most modern cars.

The sills dosent have to be perfect (if you planing on having the sill covers on). You can paint it yourself, nobody will ever see it anyway.

If your going to to a job do it right mine has to be perfect

agreed on that.. i hate bodge jobs!
Speaking of which.. if the bottom of the wing panels where they connect to the sills are crunchy like cornflakes (still bubbled paint and your finger can't go through at all) is that a new wing needed??
hoping not, but if it has to be done.. it has to be done.. and more money thrown at it for painting them up :S
suppose it'd be two less panels to worry about for a respray lol!!
