Title: Knocking when raising and lowering drivers window
Post by: VWhitehawk on 06 August 2014, 12:11
So went out in my car this morning and rolled the drivers window down, and as it just started to roll down there was a clunk, also the same happened when rolling it back up.

I looked for all the obvious issues like the trim catching but can't see anything. Could it be a clamp that holds the glass?

The obvious initial thought would be a failed window regulator/ component based on the symptoms you describe.  I'd imagine a repair would take about an hour plus any replacement parts (new regulator perhaps?).

You could do a visual assessment for yourself by removing the door card, if confident about doing so.

Thanks for the reply, I will get this looked at, the window still works at the minute, I'll check if it is covered under my warranty as well first before going to the local VAG specialist.

This sounds like it could be expensive!

And I have just been out and rolled the windows down and nothing not even a clunk.

Think it could of been one of those things or its just wearing slowly.

Regulators are covered under warranty... We've just had both fronts done under warranty, although they were squeaking not clunking.  However, the clunk you refer to can be symptomatic of a failed regulator component.

They might ask you to pay for a diagnostic pending confirmation of replacing items covered under warranty, hence it might be an idea (if possible) for you to remove the door card and look (only) yourself first.
