Title: Rear doors squeeks
Post by: GeoBog on 06 August 2014, 00:28
Has anyone with 5 doors noticed the rears squeeking when fully opened and then closed? From what I can tell it comes from the rubber seal at the lower corner of the rear doors, next to the center pillars touching the sills.

Is there a design fault of the seals or is it just a dodgy batch of seals?

Yes mine's the same, collected in April but gradually settling down. Rear passenger side squeaks most, definitely the door rubbing against the seal. The forward most part of the door touches the seal first, resulting in maximum seal compression in that area and the most shear against the seal. After driving off I can sometimes hear the seals creeping back to a more neutral position, particularly if the car is not square on  whilst being driven over a sharp speed bump. I don't think it's a problem with the seals, just how the rear doors have had to be hung so they close properly. A little Vaseline applied locally helps.

Noisey door seals are a common problem on Mk2 Focus ST's.  We all use this stuff on the FOCUSSTOC.com and I can recommend it

These squeaks are doin' my head in. Now I can hear the car squeaking even when I am doing parking maneuvers.

Gummi plfege is very good stuff and useful in winter as it stops the seals icing and the door getting stuck.

That said, ours doesn't squeak I can only assume it do to me using some FK1000p on all of the door shuts etc :)

Mine did it - solved by pushing the seal in the corner of the door upwards with some force. No problems since.
