Title: Oil dissapearing
Post by: benmanc on 05 August 2014, 10:44
My oil is dissapearing.

I dont have a leak but it goes from max on the dipstick to minimum in a couple of weeks. Around 4.

Any ideas?

I get a little white smoke sometimes but doesnt look like there is oil in the coolant.

Power still there so turbo is not nackered but maybe still leaking out of there or something?

Thoughts?

thanks.

It'll be being burnt within the engine somewhere, valve stems are not common to go but can be a cause for oil being used.

If you want to check if the turbo oil seals are gone, pull off one of the pipes to the intercooler and look for a LOT of oil coming out of it, some is normal lots is not.

remove one end of it and see if it gushes out, if not then a small amount would indicate a boost leak which could be the cause of the oil loss

How can a boost leak cause oil loss?

Will have a look soon, managed to snap a quick pic

Oil runs through all you boost pipes in very small quantities a boost leak will let some of it escape how much depends on the size of the leak, yours doesn't look too bad at all. Its still worth removing one of the pipes because if oil gushes out you could have an issue with the turbo oil seals and that would be a more likely reason for the oil use.
