Hi
I have ordered a GTI PP and plan on doing 7k miles a year, PCP set to 6k but i guess i will go over in the first year a little. Other VAG and BMW cars i have owned have been on long life service intervals so only had approx 1 service in 3 years approx, but not sure what VW does for the Mk7 or if the GTI is different?
So is this worth it? I plan to drop the oil at about 1-2k and replace along with a VW oil filter just to satisfy my OCD. But how much servicing will this car need over 3-4 years to keep the full VW service history?

If you do the service plan you will be getting annual services. Those long life services are meant for high milers, so the car gets looked at every 18 months or less. Go with the annual services and get your car looked at more often, just in case the dealership found something wrong that you didn't.

Hi Jackie, at the mileage you plan to do I would leave the car on time and distance (10k or 12 months between services) as you will get the service light coming on early if set to longlife. The service plans are good value and will save you a lot of money. I would go for the 3 year one which is the best value then just pay for the oil and filter change at 1-2k. Hope this helps, Ben

Thanks guys, so if i buy the 3 year service plan and do 7k - even up to 10k its better to have set service intervals of 1 year for each service? I will be servicing the car at 1-2k myself as any monkey can drop oil and replace a filter. If the 4 year service is ok isn't that still worth it? Or have i missed something?

Hi, the difference between the 3 year plan and the 4 year plan is almost £200, your 4th service should cost less than this so for that reason I would go for the 3 year one. Servicing it every year regardless of your mileage (provided it's less than 10k) is good for the engine plus it gets the car checked mechanically and for open workshop campaigns such as software updates / common problems. Sorry to bring this up again, I spoke to another VW dealer today, not connected to my purchase and ask them to let me know the servicing i would need for a GTI doing less than 10k a year, if it was on a yearly service interval. I also added that I wasn't a mystery shopper or price checking against any other dealer, just looking for rough cost.
after a brief chat they quoted me this:
1st service. OIL service £149
2nd service. OIL & POLLEN service £160 (approx)
3rd service. OIL & INSPECTION service £149 + (brake fluid change £59)
4th service. Full & INSPECTION service - oil, plugs, pollen, air, etc £299
SUB TOTAL £816
Total £757 minus the brake fluid change as this is not included in the service plan either
So man maths - If i pay £15.99 for 36 months/3 years on the 4 year service plan i will only pay £575
So unless i'm not understanding it, its still better to be on the 4 year service plan? as after 4 years i will have only paid £575 instead of £757 by paying at the time of each service. (Not adding any increased service costs after each year as i guess VW put the prices up sometimes)

I have just been checking the service intervals and which filters are due at what time,
If you were to come to us for your 1st 4 services we would charge as below (I work at a Volkswagen Main Dealer)
£125 1st oil change service
£160 2nd service inc Pollen filter
£179 3rd service plus £59 for brake fluid change
£220 4th service which includes the Fuel filter change and pollen again
Air filter is due 6yrs or 60k so no need for that
Giving you £684 over the 4 years, obviously you would need an MOT at the 3rd service too which wouldn't be included in the plan.
All the service plans are good value for money depending on what car you have / when filters and inspections are due as they differ from car to car and engine to engine,
You would save money taking out the plan and paying monthly suits a lot of people,

Service plan all the way. Take the 3 year deal (£383.76) as you won't need the 4th service as you will be selling it. I think you'll also find that the brake fluid change is included in the deal - it is with mine and I have the 3 year deal as outlined in your screen shot.

Where does it say it includes a break fluid change? I bought a 3 yr service plan for £299 when I ordered the car and I can't find any reference to break fluid change. I was under the impression it's not included in the service plan. Be great if it is... another £60 saved!

With regards to the brake fluid it depends on the retailer, volkswagen say what you have to include which is of course the service the its up to the retailer to decided whether they are going to include mot's brake fluid change etc. At our retailer you don't get the bfc but I know of of others where you do. The problem is you would have to take it to the selling retailer to benefit from the extra bfc or mot as the retailer will be paying for it not vw. Hope that makes sense ☺

I will be keeping the car for 10 years, thats the plan anyway. So the 4year plan is still worth it Imo.
Also £59 for bfc every 3years is nothing tbh. Especially when you stick 70 quid in your petrol tank every time you fill up :smiley:

That's not quite right. I have the 3 year service plan (24x£15.99) and the letter I have from VW Finance (arrived about 2 months after the plan was set up) sets out what the plan includes and it states: "Brake fluid change at 36 months only."

The old 3 year service plans (pay in one lump) used to include the Bfc whereas the used car service plans (2 years 20,000 miles) didn't. As far as Iwas aware the new service plans didn't include the Bfc but I may be wrong, I will check at work tomorrow it may be the mot I am thinking of!
Your first Bfc is at 3 years then two years ever after ☺
Either way all the serviceplans save you money
