Post by: jerseyal on 01 August 2014, 09:47
Hi all I have a long thin scratch on the outside of the glass on the back window of my Gti Anybody know of any products I can use to repair it ? Or glass polish to mask it ?

Gtechniq G4 or Ceriglass may help it

You Tube gives some instructional videos on this, had a scratch on the windscreen of my MR2, lived with it. If it's deep you'll have limited success. Think the secret is mopping, slow speed and plenty of product/water.

If it's a light surface scratch they can sometimes be removed with T-Cut (the original stuff in the red bottle). A damp microfibre cloth and a fair bit of effort rubbing across the scratch.

Otherwise as others have said you'll need a dedicated glass cutting compound and lots of time and patience.

Depends how deep it is but as said try dedicated glass product.  If it's deep you might have limited success.

I've got an arc scratch on my front windscreen as a result of grit caught in wiper.  As it's on the passenger side I've decided to live with it.
