Hi Guys,
Picked up my GTi MK6 a few weeks ago & the last couple of days the air con has not worked correctly. I press the button for the AC but the air remains warm / outside temperature. Has anybody else experienced this? If I scanned it with a Vag Com does the air con / compressor usually throw any error codes?
As it's done it a couple of times now I've booked it in with VW this Thursday, as the car is still under warranty, they should cover any costs shouldn't they? I've only had the car since the 5th of July.
Any info would be gratefully received!

Probs compressor fail common fault gutted

What aspect of it is intermittent? Need to ascertain under which circumstances it works and when it doesn't to identify what has failed. If its not working at all then yeah the compressor has probably gone.

Sometimes you will get cold air but it's not overly cold but it's definitely cooler than outside air. And sometimes you will get nothing but warm air despite the button being pressed for the air con. That's the best I can describe it as, I'm off to VW today to book the car in, it's under warranty so I'm expecting them to fix it with no cost to myself.

Hi Adycakes,
Similar situation happened to me.. I bought my MK6 GTi back in April from a VW dealer, as it was cold I never really had to use it in April.. But obviously with all this recent hot weather, I wanted to use it. So after trying it out, it wasn't really working and after ten or so minutes (on a hot day), windows closed with the black leather, I may as well have been in a sauna.
I was quite annoyed as VW were supposed to have sold the car with everything fully functioning (was quite annoyed at myself for not checking it on pick up actually, school boy error!).
So yeah, long story cut short, booked it in at VW under warranty for an inspection as I said "possible compressor problem", along with a couple of other problems (different story!).
They carried out of a full air con service free of charge and now its as cold as ice, working perfectly.
If they try charging you, tell them to jog on!
Hope this helps. GTIOxford.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time out to reply, really appreciate that. Glad you got yours sorted, hopefully I can get a similar result! I just have a funny feeling my local dealership are not very good, even when looking for a car they were so poor which is why I didn't buy from them in the end.
I bought mine from a London Dealership despite being from Norwich myself but it was worth the trek for the spec I wanted. I did use the air con (I doubt I would have if it wasn't for the fact it was baking hot that day) on the way home & it was cool but not ice cold but it seemed ok. Having had the car for just over a month now it's quite clear that something isn't quite right with it as sometimes the air con just doesn't work as I've detailed above so I booked it into VW for Tuesday next week.
They are currently trying to charge me £50 for the air con service which I have flat out refused to pay on the principle that the car was sold with the feature of air con that now doesn't work. The guy stated that an air con service could not be claimed under warranty so I'm now chatting to VW customer service about the issue. All in all it's a frustrating experience which I'd quite like solved ASAP, but it's proving quite difficult at the moment.
I've kept the appointment & I'm hoping that it will all come together!
Thanks for all the replies, I'll update this thread once I have some more information.
Cheers,
Ady
