Just had a look under the bonnet.
On my other two VW/SEAT cars both cables from the gear lever to the gearbox on the gearbox end have rubber dust covers covering the bit that moves to stop muck getting on them..

My mk6 GTI  only has a rubber cover over the cable that does side to side movement. Not the forward backwards movement.
Is this normal?

The photo below shows between the air box and the engine. The cable to the top of the gearbox.

Notice the metal rod with the cream coloured plastics on the ends  thus rid is what moves in and out of the cable.

This one below taken from the rear of the engine looking down next to the battery shows one of the cables rods has a cover other one does not how odd.

Is that normal? :undecided:

Mines sort of changed over the course of the past week were temps have been around 24c
I know changing the gearbox oil seems to make a difference with the TDIs though.
If mine had done a few miles I could for give it but its just turned 12.5k
