Title: Turbo Options 1.8T
Post by: Kruga on 20 July 2014, 11:25
Ok so im in need of a new / refurbished turbo (K03 Hybrid or k03S) as the k03 is well just holding the car back, this question is manly aimed at the people who have bought turbo's for the cars.

What company did you get your turbo from? CR Turbos, Gap Turbos, DynamicTurbos etc etc
How much did it cost you and was there any problems?

Also am i right in thinking Leon Cupra have K03s turbos as standard?

Looking at a gt3071r next if I do upgrade, will be saying bye to 300 bhp/ton and hello to 400+ per ton, but more importantly lower Egt for sustained track use

GT30 = lag
Title: Re: Turbo Options 1.8T
Post by: rockmonkey69 on 20 July 2014, 20:45
I think it just depends on each persons driving style, people say the gt3071 lags but it makes over 300bhp by ~4500rpm which in my eyes is fine I don't think I would want to be making 300 bhp any sooner for a track car. Plus when racing I shift at redline and the revs are still in powerband for the next gear. Admittedly a big turbo will have further costs associated with it I.e good manifold is around £800 alone which most would find difficult to justify.

It all depends which way you want to go in terms of power and how many mods you have already / plan on doing.

I'm not going past a K03s, Stage 2 because I need it as a daily still

One last question what exactly am i looking for in a k03s like good or bad signs? and is there a part number for them as the local scrappy (car transplants) no longer allows people to walk around the yard and look at cars you got to sit in the waiting room while they find the part for you...
Title: Re: Turbo Options 1.8T
Post by: MoMartin on 25 July 2014, 15:36
things to look for -
- minimal shaft play (shouldn't hit the sides in any place - a bit of play is normal though)
- cracks anywhere is generally a bad sign (though some people argue that small cracks on the hot side doesnt effect boost / performance)
- cracks on the wastegate
- oil in the turbine

part no is either 5303 988 0052 or 5303 988 0026

Does this look ok i know its not much to go by but are the "8 Curved fins" a problem?

And wouldnt a k04 setup require me to change a few other parts tho?
